stronglight cranks
has anyone here ever used or know someone who has used the stronglight track cranks? i have been told that they have a true track chain ring and are a decent compromise to higher priced track cranks. i was just wondering how they hold up, i do not really plan to be riding them on the track, just on the street and i want to upgrade what i have now without emptying my pockets too much.
thanks. |
I seem to remember people liking them, if I remember correctly. Personally, I want the Ultim cranks to put on a Look KG496...

The newer Stronglight Track cranks are 130mm, so they can take road chainrings, too.
The special Business Cycles is having on the whole crankset is a good deal. |
i've been wondering what the gipimme cronosprints are all about. they're only $154 dollars at american cyclery (so you can probably find them even cheaper).

I have a set of stronglight cranks on my daily rider. Had them for around about five months now. I don't imagine that interval is enough to really test any such component, but they show no signs of wear. I push pretty hard, I busted a crankset on my mountain bike just by accelerating, I am probably torqing the hell out of my frame, but the stronglights are quite rigid. I don't have any other track cranks to compaire them too, but I would recommend them to anyone looking for a set in that price range.

i just got a pair of older stronglight light road cranks (circa 60s) and i can't figure out what size pedal thread it is. the crank arm does not accept a 9/16" but it's pretty close (its not 1/2") ..also i can't figure out the BCD, i used a chart but it didnt match any of the standards.....any ideas??

i'm preeeetty sure that the older stronglight stuff is 118 bcd
...oddly enough i think i have some chainrings in this size. pm if interested. |

English/Italian pedal threads: 9/16 x 20 TPI French pedal threads: 14mm x 1.25mm The French threads can be retapped to 9/16" |
You all consider $150 'affordable' for a street crankset? Wow, I need to switch to unicycling. |
Careful with pre-82 Stronglight cranks. They aren't coming off without their proprietary crank puller!

french threads must probably

I have the Stronglight cranks on my bike. I have had them for about a year and a half riding on the street and they have been fine. I don't have much to compare them to, but they do the job and are a pretty good price.
They have a 130 bcd so you can use road chainrings if you want to use 3/32 stuff, or you can get 1/8 track stuff. The smaller bcd is quite useful for the street because you can use smaller chainrings than with 144 bcd cranks. |
