Chainring Bolts Probs!
Hey, I'm running a Salsa 42t chainring and Sugino cranks, and my chainring bolts keep coming loose for some strange reason. It seems that every couple of days now I can feel my cranks slipping forward against the chainring. Most people have recommended LocTite, but I'm a little worried about being able to get the chainring bolts out when I need to.
So, any suggestions here? Somebody else said they had the same problem with Salsa chainrings...hmmm.... Thanks! |
use blue loctite, it's easy to break with an allen wrench but it'll help keep the bolts in place

teflon tape works too.

I had problems sort of similar to this. I found it was because my bolts were made to go through two chainrings so I just put some washers on the inside of my chainring(as not to take away from the hotness that is my bike) and found that the bolts tightened much better and didn't get loose.
Maybe you're experiencing something similar? Hope you find a salution. |
i kinda have a different chain ring bolt problem. i cant get them off because of these like, counterbolts(???) in the back. it seems like i need some kinda 2 pronged fork looking tool to grip them, but i dont know. hlp plz

Here are several models of chainring bolt spanners. You can also try your LBS or any online merchant.

hey Akula32 - i've got a salsa on a sugino and had trouble too. first, flip the chain ring around so the logo is facing the frame, then, use the blue loc-tite. you can get it off when you need to but, so far (about a year), it hasn't failed on me since i used it.
