Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? The painted Zipp2001 was my 12/24 hour and Brevet bike and a daily ride for almost 10 years. It was set up with aero bars and had gears, I switched it to a single speed over a year ago. The belt drive system is very smooth and transfers the power better than the chain drive. I've been on these Zipp's since 1993 and they ride great for me.

Getting close to wrapping up this one. Early 70s Gitane Mexico. This will be the only single speed fixed gear in the fixed gear herd.

The rest of the herd.

The Tetanus Express. 1964-ish Dunelt Sport. 559 wheels and a 2 speed AW fixed hub. Commuted for years on this and ran more than a few Alley Cats in my fifties with it. Usually had my ass handed to me but it was fun.

The Anglo American. Early 50s Robin Hood frame, fixed 2 speed Bendix hub, Fulger drum brake up front, 700 rims. Double ugly stem makes it comfortable for an old fart pushing 70.

The Phoenix. 1973 Super Course frame with a 3 speed FW fixed hub.

It's called the Phoenix because it was built up from the salvaged parts of this Mercier Velox,

after it ended up looking like this.

Something I knocked up, still need to stick the headtube badge back on.

Found a aluminium fork that would fit the old headtube

That's the most radical Steamroller I've ever seen. With what appears to be some serious gear inches - nice!

Appreciate the love. The setup in that photo is 52/17. When the snow came this season, the build got a little chunkier. Swapped out the drivetrain for a 48/17 and put on the gravel wheelset. Cheers

Please show a drive side photo, so that we can see the crank spider and chainring. That's definitely a cool old lugged frameset.

Just about wound up on the Gitane.

I'm waiting for a warm and sunny day to wrap the bars. Just like to do the job outdoors.
