Has fixed slowed my cadence?

I have been riding a 48x17 for about 1k flat miles. I switched to fixed from a many geared bike. I found in first month I had no problem riding 120rpm constant with peaks to 130. I did find myself a bit slow out of stops. Now 3mo later I rarely cruise over 110, maybe peak at 120. This is slower and I notice it. On the flip side my starts are much stronger.

When I first started riding this ratio I wanted a higher one (like 48x16) for more speed. Now I wonder if a lower one would get my spin back up, but I also don't want to inhibit my top cruising speeds.

You just need to ride some downhills more to keep that cadence practice up.

I don't have any downhills in town (where I commute), but there is often a nice tailwind. Unfortunately I only get it several miles at a time and not consistenly.

I think I may ride my multigeared bike again for a while. I always used low gearing and shifted constantly for consistent high rpms, even into and out of intersections. I don't get that anymore.

A lower gearing for more spin will obviously help you out.

I have a 47/16 and usually cruise around 90 rpm with sprints/downhill/tailwinds pushing me up to 130. I can burst as high as 160+, but that doesn't last.

While I don't have a lot of miles on my shifter since I got the cadence counter on there, I've found in my limited time that I feel most comfortable spinning 100 to 120 on there.

It seems to slow my spin down, but my power goes up. Then on the geared bike the spin come back. The power seems to help the spin a lot. I like alternating fixed to geared it seems to be the best thing for my power. It's so nice it does not seem like training.

bostontrevor: now that I understand it, very cool avitar!

I've been keeping my spin below 30 rpm ever since I switched. it has helped me a lot.
