Choosing a chain...
I need to replace my 3/32" chain and for the time being would like to work from spare parts on hand...
Which is equal or closer to 3/32 - 8-speed or 9-speed chains? And does it matter?
TIA and Happy Holidays everybody...

8 speed (actually 6-7-8) chains are 3/32". 9 speed chains are slightly narrower at 11/128", which probably would work but may be a tight fit for your cog. 8 speed chains are cheaper and just as strong so they are the easy choice here.

I guess I would go with an 8 speed chain but if I was looking to replace I would go Izumi. They are fantastically long lasting chains and really well made. Yes they seem expensive but they last a while and don't make noise or flex or anything that one just happens to be the narrow version for 3/32 stuff. They do make cheaper stuff than the Super Toughness but not quite as nice but will also do well.

I currently have 9-speed chains on two of my singlespeeds, and an 8-speed on the other. Can't tell any difference in fit or performance.

I use 8 Speed KMC or SRAM chains all the time. I know there are chains out there that could give me more millage. But then again, I would rather have my chain wear out before my Freewheel and Crank...
