philly gearing
for anyone in flat philly. what gear ratio are you guys running? im thinking 48/18. any suggestions. legs are weak from spoiling them with 27 speeds

I ran 48x16 for awhile. It probably was a bit high but I got used to it. I have another bike set up with 42x15 which seamed a little more reasonable if you're only going to be on the philly streets.

You can pretty much run whatever gearing you like in Philly. Sometimes the wind can get you, but the hills really aren't a problem.

wind can definately get you. I ride 48X17 but even that can be a little much for parts of the city. Riding up to germantown/mt airy or into the burbs can get a little steep at times.

46x18 but i commute up a big hill to get to my home in the outskirts of da city...
i'd probably switch to a 46x16 if i lived "in" the city, but i have weak girly legs and like to spin. a real masher could and probably does use a higher ratio than that.

49x16. I'm in center city tho, and yes it sucks most of the time. Most. I'm lowering it soon...this heat is killing me..even at low cadence I'm flyin, and sweatin my balls off.
