No, sorry my fault. I didn’t realize KHS kept the name and changed the bike after 96 - sneaky - I didn’t have the version with the ‘pursuit’ geo. I had the one with the curved seat tube and the ‘true temper’ tubing from 1996

I bought it new(guess they didn’t fly off the shelf)from a bike store in Hell’s Kitchen as a complete bike in probably 2005 for $700

gremlins bike emporium has a page that shows the track bikes that KHS made between 96 and 2005 built up -

Amd I take issue with parts of this quote: "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)"

Really? Sunday I will be 77 years of age (Dec. 22, 1947 - now) and I ride whatever the hell I want and some 30 year olds are just obstacles in the road.

Apologies

Maybe that was a little challenging... I had a young kid about 50 who was very rude to me on the road yesterday. He ate dust.

in 1913 Igor Stravinsky's Rite of Spring debuted in Paris. It was so radically different, it caused a near riot. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Rite_of_Spring

Over 10 years later the piece was played again to greater acceptance. Looking at this ("bike" pic) kind of mullet set up, with the low bars and tilted back seat. And that kind of adjustable flexible riser stem thing.... all I can think is - I'd like to not see this again for 10 years.... or longer!

welp.... happy trails and nearly Merry Christmas.

ps - is that a down tube shifter on a fixie ? like, just to cover up the shifter boss? .... they make little covers for those bosses, is all i'm sayin'..... i mean - if you're just throwing stuff from the parts bin on a frame that you can't sell, i understand that. totally. ... but i like do have some limits, personally.

The down tube shifter on a fixie.
I have that on both sides of my downtube.
It's just my love of Simplex.
Nothing functional, just sweet memories of the smoothness.
Love the fixed, love the Simplex just for the beauty and unused functionality.
Nerd, I am.

Pretty setup but such a tiny chainring...

RavenRidesAlone 12-23-24 09:25 AM

Shifter boss covers on my 88 Paramount.

Now that is fancy

Will you inform me about the brake set?
Brand and model, and why they look so complex?
Thanks much!

Cane Creek eeBrakes - light, powerful, and expensive.

After a break from it for a little while, I’m enjoying being back in the single speed MTB game.

my other fixed gear

my other (first) fixed gear, finally dressed up enough to show off! i was waiting on the bars (nitto b307), which i had to order from japan since theyre out of production. the newer mustache bars are too wide!

the frame has huge tire clearance which is cool, i have 700x35c tires on right now, and could probably clear a 50c no problem. notably, the bb is really low so im running 155mm cranks to avoid pedal strike. gearing is 44x15

30x21. It's limiting on flat terrain (12mph max), but my area it mostly climbing steep stuff, or coasting downhill. For the climbs, the gearing is very usable.
