SF to SJ weekly ride

I just wanted to put the invite out there for anyone interested in joining us on this.

Basically, every Thursday we've been riding from SF to Palo Alto via a pretty flat route(we did it this morning too). Starting this thursday I will be going all the way to San Jose with others stopping along the way at their respective workplaces. If anyone is intersted in riding along, we meet up at 5am at 16th and 3rd. I usually ride brakeless, so don't be scurred.

i can't do it thursdays, i have to teach. wednesdays and i'd be interested

Judah 08-09-05 12:56 PM

Tuesdays are also in, I rode down today as well. I may not do it on Tuesday next week because I'm playing from 10 to midnight so I don't really want to start my Tuesday at 5am, but I will be doing it the Tuesday after next.

It's a really nice ride, hardly any traffic, fog rolling over the hills, lots of long, flat stretches to ride flat-out.

Dokushoka and Nero have both done it, as have a few others who aren't on the forum...

puckman 08-09-05 01:49 PM

Hey Judah.... sup man... what road are you riding to SJ.. I am thinking about it. How long would it take? I have to be at Adobe around 9:30 am...

Taking a bunch of smaller roads that parallel the CalTrain track, we only ride on El Camino for less than a mile, and since there are a few of us we take a lane. I get to work around 8:30 (N 1st and Brokaw) if I leave at 5am, so 9:30 would be easy. We meet at 5am and keep a pretty decent pace, today we were racing, but Thursday will probably be a bit more relaxed since there are a few first timers joining in.

drac_vamp 08-09-05 03:21 PM

about what time would you be passing through millbrae bart area? i'm game for fridays, and need to be to work around 8:30.

We pass through there ~ 6-6:30, usually hit Redwood City at 7-7:15, but it's Tuesdays and Thursdays that we do the ride in. Where do you work?

drac_vamp 08-09-05 04:02 PM

Off bayshore highway between Millbrae Ave and Broadway. Friday is bike-day for me because I carpool the rest of the week for free, plus friday is "casual dress" at the office... The weather is too nice to sit inside a Bart train with the bike.

Judah 08-09-05 04:09 PM

Bring a bag with your clothes and do it with us on a Thursday, that's what I do. We go through there really early though.

drac_vamp 08-09-05 04:11 PM

that's a bit early for me, i'd be putting in 12 hours at the cubicle. ouch! i'll bang it out this friday and see how long it takes me.

how about saturday rides to hellyer? my mom's backyard is a good refueling spot, beer and big swimming pool.

Nero 08-09-05 04:33 PM

I'll join in again the next time I have an 8-5 day. No luck with the new job though, so I'm still tied to the phone from 7-5. So I get to wake up just as early, but don't get the benefit of the bike ride

karmical 08-24-05 06:40 AM

ok so just about got it together, schedule changes and all going on that i've been up @ 4am, so i'm going to grab a new set of tires after work today looks like tomarrow is a go, its my last thursday off, but i'll be off saturdays starting next week...

Judah 08-24-05 10:04 AM

Right on man! 5am at 16th and 3rd is the time and place. Or you can meet me at my house or meet us somewhere along the way at the millbrae BART station or something, it's up to you. Give me a call and let me know.

dirtydan 08-24-05 07:32 PM

judah, I just started working down off of redwood shores parkway. It think you guys go past there, maybe? If so, i'd like to join in on next thursdays ride.

You could pretty easily hop off there from the route that we take. It goes down Old County which bisects Ralston.

Kendal came with us today and rode til Palo Alto station. I rode all the way in to work. Right after Kendal split off Corey and I got pulled over for running a red. The cop couldn't believe that we'd "rode all the way from the city on track bikes without brakes". He was nice enough, said he used to race down at hellyer, and checked out our bikes for a while, still gave us tickets though

jonb 08-25-05 10:30 AM

that. sucks.

46x17 08-25-05 10:33 AM

How much did he charge you? You might be able to fight it.

being third bike through the red there were some down right evil looks on faces, kind of why i stopped more than i ran through those freakin' unholy long lights, heck i saw people using laptops while waiting for green...not to forget about running that train gate, cutting in front of that oncoming train... i think that was the point where i was beginning to wake up fully.

loved the ride, i can't believe there is that little traffic, i mean basically we hit traffic in what like menlo park or something, and then it wasn't nothing.

ok so now i see why you have your pad, that bike car was brutal, some of those pos riding types simply toss their bikes into the pile not giving a sh^t...

I feel kinda dumb, he didn't ask for ID or anything. Why did I give him my real name and address? Oh well, maybe this will cover me for a few years...

It is a lot of fun. The route I took today: http://velo.metanovus.com/index.php?...di@w_@eHs^wA_B

As for CM this Friday, I might go. Depends on when Don is gonna be in town, I may end up getting dinner with him or something, if not though, I'll be there on the blue bike (I broke a few chainring bolts on the Kiyo so it's taking it easy until I can get some replacements).
