a damn big SS (mtb)
i am a big guy and up till now i was riding a pretty small bike. that all changed this weekend!
custom goodness from: http://www.waltworks.com/ 29" wheels (700c for you roadies ;) ), 1 speed, 34x22, better than i could imagine! my new baby. http://s94916384.onlinehome.us/walt/DSC02057.JPG the front http://s94916384.onlinehome.us/walt/DSC02060.JPG the back http://s94916384.onlinehome.us/walt/DSC02058.JPG compared to a 17 inch "little" bike http://s94916384.onlinehome.us/walt/DSC02064.JPG thanks to legalize_it for all the help in putting it together and helping me to figure out those new hitech cranks! according to him "it's so big it should have a backup alarm" :D come say hi if you see me at SSWC! |
Nice.
Any reason you didn't get a matching WW fork? Trying to save some coin (very understandable)? I'll be at SSWC w/ my Kelly 29er. Well, that or my Surly 1x1, lending one of the bikes to a friend coming in from Germany for the event, so I'll let him pick which ride he wants. |
he's got a 220 pound limit on his forks rioght now, and i come in at a nice 230. he says he's making big guy forks after some more testing. i'll definitely get one when they are ready as the KM fork seems extra super stiff!

sweet bike max a mill.
That old bike looks like it should be your little brothers . :) It looks like there is a 4-5'' difference in effective top tube length. I love that stretched out feeling on singlespeeds. I feel that it helps your climbing quite a bit while giving you that nice aggressive xc position. I also feel that you can stay seated longer in that position while climbing. Your back brake looks a little mal adjusted by the way. |
Wow. You must be really big! When I looked at the first pic, I thought "What's he talking about? It's not big at all". Then I read it has 700c wheels...
Good job you found tyres for that monster. |
the other bike isn't my old one, it's my girlfriends.... my old SS was a little bigger than that, but not too much.

Holy crap, that thing may climb like a mule, but it looks like a horse! It makes your cranks look positively tiny. It's encouraging to see such niche bikes being made (well) in a variety of sizes with appropriately sized components (29ers, etc.)
