skiptooth, we plan to be in CT:

Tues. Sept 6th (Day 3): Ride form NYC to CT
Sat. Sept 10th (Day 7): Ride from Boston to CT

both nights we're just getting into town and crashing, so unfortunately we won't have a lot of time to hang out and be "shown around" the way the boston folks will get to... but if there's anyone that would be willing to offer us a floor to sleep on for either or both of those nights, we'd love to check it out and see if it's in our riding range for the route we're taking. If we aren't able to work out a place to crash/shower I'm sure we'll be perpertually hungry on this tour, so a cool place to eat and friendly people to meet would fuel us up too! (Vegetarian friendly preferred)

our routes will be getting settled only a day of two before we leave (waiting for some research material in the mail), but I'll get more specific information posted as it comes.

wow, this is awesome, BEER IN BOSTON... I feel so loved. So hey, anyone in NYC want to put us up for a night? A lot of people just backed out and I am fearful of getting stranded without a place to stay.

thanks!!

MattGarfield 09-02-05 06:01 AM

I'm sure we'll have no problem cozying up on a steam vent. Hundreds of people do it every night.

marked001 09-02-05 10:29 AM

I dnt think you'll need a steam vent...maybe an AC vent..haha..

Wish I could help you guys out on the NY thing. Your thread title should've been Philly-NY-Boston. NY people probably aren't reading this thread. I can recommend an inexpensive hotel.

MattGarfield 09-02-05 02:16 PM

please do! Motels are even better (so we can all sneak into one room. typically, hotels have a main front entrance, whereas motel rooms all have outside entrances).

Thanks

MattGarfield 09-02-05 02:18 PM

oh and by the way, I put up another thread specifically asking for help from NY in the title and it's only gotten one response from a well wisher- psshh- so much for NYC hospitality! haha.

bostontrevor 09-02-05 02:21 PM

I don't know what Jeff has, but I'll recommend the Chelsea Star and Carlton Arms. We've had no problems sleeping two to a room in these places. I don't know about the Chelsea Star, but I've stayed with my bike at the Carlton Arms. Both are a little on the sketch side, the CA a little more so, but not terrible.

jrowe 09-02-05 03:21 PM

The Larchmont in the village is great. $100/night for a tiny, but clean and charming, room. http://larchmonthotel.com/index.html. I've never stayed there with a bike.

nocoins 09-03-05 08:55 PM

Oh man, T-Minus 7 Hours until we leave this stinkburg town of Philadelphia.... and head out to NYC, CT, and Boston.... WOOT! See all you suckas soon.

Have a nice ride gentlemen. See you in Boston.

psn 09-07-05 12:38 PM

Just making sure we're still meeting these guys at Delux tomorrow night. I have a meeting at 7:30, but hopefully I can be there by 9-9:30.

stickyfoot 09-07-05 01:17 PM

According to this, we are: http://bangboston.blogspot.com/2005/...-sept-8th.html

I'll probably show at 9:00 but I'll be trying like mad to move the party to MIT at 10:00 for some sprints. If I don't have any takers, I might jet and try to catch up with the party train afterward. Anybody else planning on getting their ghettodrome on tomorrow night?

rob

psn 09-07-05 02:25 PM

Ah, the ghettodrome. Yeah, I'd like to come just to see what's up (I've never been), show off the new unit, and maybe even race. We'll see how my back/shoulder holds up riding over to Delux. I have this feeling that out of the saddle sprints and going balls out on the track might put a lot of strain on it and be very unhelpful. Rather be a poser for the night than have to deal with this pain for yet another week...

jrowe 09-07-05 02:28 PM

Um, you are not a poser if you fail to ride your bike on the MIT running track.

psn 09-07-05 02:38 PM

Fair enough. Do you think it's cool to bring my blingmobile down to Delux, jrowe? I don't know the area very well... I'm not worried about it getting stolen - I'll bring a fat lock to (hopefully) take care of that - but I don't want my seat (or various other parts) getting ripped off or something dumb like that (which would probably happen in Central, et al.). Otherwise, I'll just bring the trusty ol' I-R-O.

jrowe 09-07-05 02:46 PM

Your bike will be fine.

psn 09-07-05 02:54 PM

Blingmobile it is then! See you tomorrow night.

WithNail 09-07-05 11:28 PM

em where is delux???

sorry... I just clicked on the link... so 9pm! awesome.

oh and from what I hear, the MIT track has been on hiatus for a while after being kicked out two weeks in a row a few weeks back. I have been florida ever since so I'm not sure if that's true but I have not heard otherwise. I'll make some calls tomorrow and see what's up though.

psn 09-08-05 07:23 AM

Look back on the first page, the location is there (I think), or on that link in post #38. For whatever it's worth, I'm getting there by crossing the Mass Ave. bridge, going on Comm Ave. toward downtown, and then turning right on the same street you take to get to Copley. Go past Copley and cross 90 and then Delux should be more or less at the corner of whatever street you're on and Clarendon. Too lazy to look at the map right now...

It's been on hiatus from the main field, but a small crew of us has been racing and practicing every week anyway so that when the other kids do finally show, we'll be badass and they'll be puddin' pops. PUDDIN' POPS!!

And we weren't kicked out two weeks in a row either. We were kicked out twice, but those incidents were weeks apart.

rob

bostontrevor 09-08-05 07:47 AM

I'll be there. I may be up for going to the races, though probably not, especially if I don't get my hub rebuilt in time. (I was an idiot and nuked one of my bearings reinstalling them, so now I really need to get the right sized ones.)

Anyhow, the word I've heard is that the races are pretty small these days. I've been told by some that it's because people are catching flack downtown for racing and giving messengers a bad rap, but that doesn't really make sense to me. The Cambridge Bike crew is telling me that's bull and that people are just lazy. That sounds a little closer. That's certainly my excuse. :) There's some talk of reinstating the Saturday night ride.

WithNail 09-08-05 07:52 AM

that's right I was thinking that we got kicked out the week when the security guard was just sitting there watching us the whole time. Oh and how are you rob? It's Henry.

rithem 09-08-05 07:55 AM

I'll be there plus one this week

stickyfoot 09-08-05 08:04 AM

Yeah, that security guard just left after a while. I think laziness combined with a few incidents like getting kicked out or knocked out put a damper on things for a bit. If nothing else, it's fun to just ride around real fast and get some beers afterward. I don't know anything about the downtown scene. I do know that messenger kids have shown up for the races and seemed pretty cool with it. But whatever. If there's no scene, make a scene, right?

Henry, let's ride sometime. You're friggin fast!

rob
