The past couple of Sundays that I've been up there, the infield has been commandeered by highschool boys playing tackle football. Anyone else run into these guys? They seem nice, but I'm still waiting to get a football in the head while taking a turn, completely shattering my glasses and my dreams. So, two weekends ago one of these guys goes to aforesaid Drop Zone, and after he enters, his compatriots surrounded it and started pelting it with sporting equipment. And when all their balls deflected outside the circumference of their circle of doom they start punching and kicking the Drop Zone. The guy inside took it like a good natured ribbing, and he had to, he was outnumbered. It was like Waterboy meets Lord of the Flies--silly and stupid but sinister.

Fred, I don't know if I'm going for sure, I want to, but I got a thing. I probably won't know until Saturday morning. If I know earlier, I'll get in touch and we could caravan, and I could at least take some gear in my car.

I've ridden around with those kids there. coach was nice — when he saw me he went out of his way to say that they won't get in the way and that after half an hour, I'll have the place to myself for 3 hours.

I may come up too, although the two track bikes are not equipped for track riding. one is not really equipped for riding at all. If I come, I'm just going to circle around and around in my own little world.

Let's just get a regular chicago thing down before we get all uppity and go out of state. The mindless circling I did in the beginning really helped clear my mind. I needed it. Now I can incorporate a steady drip of EtOH into my life for the next week. What a med geek thing to say. damn.

in order to pre-empt all post pic postings regarding my selection (or lack thereof) of a bike today ... i went to the track with no intention of racing and would have been content circling for hours in my own little world, but the arrival of more people and the boredom that I started feeling on lap maybe 60? led me off to the side. yes i realize bullhorns are not track certified, yes i realize my bike has a brake. yes to all your potential snide ass remarks. if anyone still feels motivated to comment be prepared for a beating where it matters, on the street or track when you come to chicago. or when i come to you.
