sunday's the day, me and perhaps a few are planning to head out sunday morning if anyone wants to join.

Yoshi 05-05-06 10:35 AM

I'm good for saturday morning, if anyone wants to do 9W then. Let me know.

wangster 05-08-06 08:40 AM

I'd just like to announce that I had my ass handed to me on sunday by river road. I need a lot more training than I thought. That sh*t is tough and painful... still tired today riding to work. I'm now determined though, not to let that freaking ride defeat me again. It's on!

Did you take the road bike or the track bike? I took my road bike out early saturday morning and went to upper nyack before turning around and heading back.

how would you compare the "fun" factor of taking your road bike versus the fix? i've never owned a real road bike and I am considering one for these longer type of rides. although the few times i've been to nyack on the fixed i really enjoyed myself. are you going up again next saturday?

I've never actually gone to Nyack on my fixie. The farthest I've gone is Piermont (which is only a few miles from Nyack anyway). However I think it's sufficient for me to make a comparison. I'd say the road bike is more fun as you can relax on the downhills (or gear up and hit 50mph easy) and gear down on the uphills. Basically it makes the ride more relaxing. Although I should also add that I tend to take my road bike when I'm alone and take the fixie when I'm with a group (as usually I'm with a group of fixies) and it's always more fun to bike with others.

You also don't get the satisfaction of seeing the looks on the roadies faces when you roll up on a fixie.

wangster 05-08-06 11:27 AM

I took the track bike... 49x16, gonna gear down to a 17 next time. Nyack is fun, river road is just painful... at least to me it is.

yeah, or the maniacal, jeering sneer when you huff, puff and mash while they flick that little magic lever and cruise on by at a steady cadence.

How early are your road rides? I have to be in at work by 9:30 and 10 on sat and sun, but I work at a bike shop so they're pretty flexible if I ride in late with a crew.

Also, it's quarter till six right now and I'm headed to central park to do about 40-50 miles in this cooler weather. Black schwinn roadbike, black bell sweep helmet. Probably riding shorts and a tee.
No cell right now so swing by the park if you're in the area.

dirty cookie 05-08-06 04:22 PM

you should ride out to river road. 40-50 in cp gets a little boring, no?

BadAssBiker 05-08-06 05:15 PM

I just got back from 3 laps in CP. Didn't see ATN, but ran into s_9 when I was leaving.

My allergies are ****ing horrible.

yea, yea it was. This was my first time on the bike in almost two weeks and having just finished school for the semester I just wanted to get out and spin. The first four laps were pretty fun and I paced some guy running those crazy-ass power cranks. Lap five hurt more on the climb at 110, and by lap six my legs felt like jello. I saw S9 too, apparently just missed badass.
I took the hill on 110 one last time and decided to quit, so I rolled out and and ate a cupcake from Juniors.
So my 50 fast miles turned into 26 decent miles plus 15 or so easy ones. Sooo out of shape.
I'm gonna get my ass handed to me this weekend.

Oh, and my black bike turned dusty yellow from all the pollen. No allergies, baby!

visitordesign 05-08-06 08:27 PM

saw s_9 for a minute too. ran home to drop off my gear and pick up the girl, came back and anyone from here who might have been there...was gone.

y'all are a stealthy bunch.

Last weekend I left my place at around 5:45 and got to the bridge a little before 7am. Got back home around 10:45. It probably took me longer to get home from the bridge than it took to get there, so figure I was getting back into manhattan sometime between 9 and 9:30.

Normally I wouldn't get up that early but I had to work last saturday and I really really wanted to get in a nice ride. Of course, by the time I got to work I was physically exhausted and got barely anything done.

BadAssBiker 05-09-06 12:08 AM

Still, you got me.

I really am trying to not get dropped on that next ride. You'll see. :)
