i am friggin hexed

...when it comes to rear wheels.

I bent the axle on my last campy pista hubset after catching way too many flats. Replaced it with a high-flange record pista (sheriff star) on mavic gel 330 tubular this afternoon (sweeeet.) Wheel came with a 19mm pista tire, but I didn't feel like swapping it so I rode back to work, to the bar, then home. ONE BLOCK from home I hit a cut in the road, flatted, and BENT THE DAMN RIM.

I'm getting solid steel rims and solid rubber tires. ARGH.

SO PISSED.

hey man i'll do you a solid and take that bad-karma back wheel off your hands ;)

jayrooney 09-23-05 06:59 AM

that sucks.
what did you do to bend the axle on your last hub?

Dude, just replace the bent axle on your first campy hub.

You're not hexed. I am. I flat-spotted two rims this month, the second just a couple of days after building it up to replace the first. Then I fell down the steps in front of my house twice this morning.

All praise the LBS. After a (sober) morning, I rolled my dented Gel330 down to the shop, who successfully hammered out the dent... which is now pretty much invisible.

The last hub, well, let's just say it's meant for retirement. I think the entire -body- of the hub might be bent. I'm ditching the warped rim and i'm going to rebuild the hub with a fresh axle and new bearings/cones... we'll see.

Apparently NYC streets are hard on equipment.

Especially equipment that is designed for an indoor, flat, wooden surface.

Stating the obvious is so, so cruel. That 19mm tire was just stupid. Running a 23mm kevlar now, which should help a great deal...
