Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? I ordered a track frameset from this lot back in May and was told that the build time would be 9 weeks. At the 11 week point I called to find out what was going on and was put on to somebody in the workshop who kept telling me that I was "very much mistaken" if I thought I was going to get a hand built bike in that short a time. I let him know that that's what I had been told by their sales manager. "Well you obviously misheard then, didn't you?" Yeah right, misheard an email. I'm now at the 17 week point. I've emailed them 3 times in the last 2 weeks and had no replies to any of them and their phone number goes straight to a fax machine every time I call. Anybody had any experience of dealing with them in the past? The frames are lovely, but I'm about ready to tell them where they can stick mine.

- you don't give a URL, but i'm assuming this is the dude in Leeds?

- the pages i looked at lack the basic caveats on build time (or if the info is there, it's buried? corrections welcomed)...

- i always like to get everything in writing... if you were told a certain time frame and that is not the case then you were mislead... you don't say how you paid...

- that said, from everything i've read it appears common to have long lead times on custom built frames... however, good frame builders and businessmen are upfront about lead times and will clearly state on a web page, order form, and contract the typical length of time for a build...

(i've never had a custom frame built, btw)

The bolded part is the point where I get on a plane to England, go to Leeds, beat this workshop guy with some of his own tubing until he's nearly comatose and then -just for fun- remind him that Leeds ain't in the top flight anymore. No customer deserves to be spoken to like that.

Yes it is shop in Leeds. Sorry I forgot to link. I was told about the build time after I'd placed my initial order and was asked if I then wanted to go ahead with it. I have it in writing (albeit an email), so I feel I should be able to hold them to it. I paid an initial deposit of £150 there and then, the rest to be paid on completion; and I have also thought about making that trip to Leeds!

If I'd thought for one minute that Tony at IRO was going to call a bike Angus, I'd have looked no further. A hard name to go through school with, but if they name a bike after you, what the hell.

it seems that quite often the names that suck to go through childhood with end up being rather awesome. Angus, for instance, rocks.
