i must be the only one who thinks that that green color is far uglier, albeit less obnoxiously flashy, than the chrome. blech.

No, I'm with you. The chrome is sexy.

But god, I love that San Jose! Next bike maybe? I've always wanted a 'cross bike...

mattface 09-28-05 06:55 PM

I LIKE the nasty green color, and find the all chrome a bit too flashy.

I like plain jane looks. Sometimes a bit of flash is nice, but too much is too much. It's a matter of taste of course, but the funky green suits my aesthetic.

I like the chrome. Always have.

But I don't understand why they've gone away from celeste. Every bike they sell ought to be available in celeste- that's what made Bianchi special, IMO. Paint it any other color and it may as well be another brand entirely.

I dunno... a single-speed CX bike is pretty sweet. There's the On One, and you can single the CrossCheck, but other than that there's not alot out there (my single CrossCheck is probably the "most fun" bike I own)

mikdes 09-28-05 09:53 PM

Sign me up for a San Jose. Perfect for the winter commute.

This bike looks pretty good. Maybe this will bring an end to the Hipster moaning that squelches any logical discussion of this bike. (doubt it)

Too bad they went Truvativ though on the crankset.

chimblysweep 09-29-05 02:07 PM

the san jose seems like an adaptation of the langster. smart. very smart.

jonb 09-29-05 02:10 PM

fuji went blue and white for their 06 model...

I'm a chrome lover, but I think that "gang green" is growing one me. Reminds me of my retro-grouchy thermos.

I feel this way about the Reparto Corse line. I think they've spread themselve too thin, and $6300 MSRP for an Alu triangle/Carbon stay bike? WTF? I just don't get it with their Reparto Corse bikes. I just don't understand what each of those offerings are targeted for.

That said, the new D2 Crono is a vast improvement over their lagging TT frames.

I think that its smart not to offer celeste as an option for their lower end bikes. (not trying to say that that pista is a bad bike, just inexpensive) By only offering the color on more expensive models, they are distinguishing the exclusivity of a top end, race worthy bianchi.

It may only be a marketing ploy, but judging from the reaction shown here, it seems to be working.

I actually gave that some thought awhile back, and I'd agree with you if they offered a higher-end steel frame, but they don't- the Concept is AL. So the Pista is the best and only steel track frame they offer. And there's nothing wrong with it as a frame- it is race worthy once the components are upgraded. Considering those facts, not only do I think it should come in celeste, I see no good reason for them not to offer it frame only.

There was a framebuilders guide that came with the latest procycling magazine that interviewed the top people over at bianchi and talked to them about the company's direction.

Lucca Minesso, engineering and production manager: "We strongly believe in other materials as well as carbon, to forget about titanium and aluminium would be foolish."

This quote leads me to believe that Bianchi is moving away from steel bikes, at least in a competition sense. I could understand why they would not want to assosiate celeste with a steel bike if this is the case.

Lars Svalin, product manager: "Yes, the Bianchi celeste color is a real tool as a selling point."

IMO they are showing a type of hierarchy of technology, reserving celeste as a badge of top performance. I don't want to start a steel vs aluminum argument, but it is understood that steel is an older technology. Bianchi's image is one that is steeped in heritage and tradition, and making a move away from steel, while adorning newer types of frames with celeste, is a way to honor that heritage while keeping up with the times.

(also, don't forget that the people on this forum who spend hours contemplating color choices are not considered to be the target market for these bikes, while we will doubtlessly be customers, our needs are too fine tuned to be met profitably by a company such as Bianchi.)

chicagoamdream 09-30-05 08:54 AM

As someone pointed out to me on another thread, when I suggested that they were saving Celeste for the high-end, that Bianchi has a cruiser (Boardwalk, or something) that comes in Celeste.

I wouldn't buy a chrome or gang green Pista. I would probably, eventually, buy a Celeste one.

eddiebrannan 09-30-05 08:54 AM

i like the d2 but other than the frame the components all seem to be partially invisible.

This bike has old school class, it screams sophistication, it is worthy of the color celeste. Is it hard to envision a proper italian gentleman with a black suit and hat with an umbrella and breifcase underhis arm while riding this bike? This isn't just a cruiser, it's a cafe racer in the italian sense, 8-spd internal hub, v-brakes, it even has leather grips. All it needs is a brooks saddle, and MAYBE silver stem and cranks.

They are of a special "elite" color. You can only see it if you can afford it.
I don't even see a bike there.

So someone buying a Pista isn't worthy of the color celeste? That is a classy bike...for me to poop on!

The San Jose looks like a poor-man's Quickbeam. Kinda.

I like it 168% more than the Pista.

Invisible carbon. It's the next big thing. Just ask Wonder Woman.

Did someone say Quickbeam???? :-) I'd post a pic of my own, but I would be hated on for the deep V's on it! (man's inhumanity to man) ;)
