This Thread jingst me!!...My lockring came loose today -causing my chain to 'come loose' and rapping around the hub..causing me to come loose from me freakin bike. No worry though, I landed on nice soft sidewalk...(after meeting Mr. Curb) :(

Twice, both times because of sand. The second was the scariest as I went one way, the bike went another, and I almost slid under a car. Everything seemed to happen in slow motion. I wasn't wearing gloves that day because I needed to wash them, so I ripped abunch of skin off my palms, and I smashed my chin on the ground, but I didn't have any real damage there. Just a sore chin.

The sand on the streets of Boston during the winter and early spring always terrified me. I have never felt more uneasy on my bike. |
I've seemed to have one minor crash every 6 months, so I guess I'm due in a few weeks here. Most of it involves just plain old carelessness and slick pavement.

Ive been riding fixed gear for about 5 months and rode an old road bike for about 3 months before that and have only crashed once and that was on the road bike. I was afraid to lean into a turn and ended up hitting some garbage cans haha. Ive had a couple trip-ups and near death experiences on the fixie but have managed to stay up. Popped chain + brakeless + downhill + intersections = no fun. My heart is still pounding from that day which was about...3 weeks ago...

i've crashed more times than i can count, but that could be because i hit my head rather hard in a few of them.
countless minor falls and crashes, a couple of major ones. 5 (i think) forks destroyed, many wheelsets taco'd, two frames folded, approx. 40 stitches in my face total (30 the most recent time), too many cases of road rash and bruising, three twisted vertebrae, one concussion... never broke any bones (outside my skull), though... and i never passed out after crashing. i feel lucky. do you feel lucky, punk? |
I haven't had a crash in slightly over 10,000 miles over the last 16 months, 90% traffic riding. Either I'm lucky it appears, or just careful, seems like people crash way too often if you ask me

So far this year, I've crashed three times.
1. Racing at the last race of the Spring series. A guy hit my front wheel with his rear while chasing down a breakaway and I hit the deck at 28 mph. I spent two days in the hospital with a hematoma and a bloodspot on my brain for that one. 2. Two weeks after wreck #1, I was riding my fixie on my birthday and my foot came unclipped while hammering up a hill. I hit the ground and ended up with only a scraped shoulder and a pulled muscle in my arm. 3. I was following too closely behind a truck while on a training ride and he came to a complete and extremely sudden stop in the middle of the road in order to make a turn. I clipped the right side of the truck in an effort to get out of the way, but I obviously didn't make it and I scraped my shoulder again and ruined a brand-new Adidas jersey. I have about 5800 miles for the year, so if that 2000 miles/accident is accurate, I guess I'm spot on. However, I think I'm more unlucky and in the case of accident #3, more stupid than anything or anybody else |
i was sprinting through and intersetion about a week ago, and half of my aluminum handlebars snapped off in my hand. i went straight down but it didnt hurt as much as it could have. i got alot of funny looks riding with half a handlebar. later i figured out that cable holes drilled by someone other than me weakened the bars. it is a really bad feeling to be pulling on the bars real hard to sprint and have them break off.
ive had some really near misses lately. like people opening car doors, or delivery trucks parked and nobody letting me out of the bike lane when im going 25 or faster. i've done the zero mph clipless thing a bunch of times. "oh **** im falling over and theres nothing i can do about it" and last but not least ive fallen a few times track standing while clipped in. while touring, after using a computer (and being inside a building) for the first time in a few weeks i smacked straight into someones back wheel and went down. and we also had a nasty dog related pileup in the rain. |
i think this thread jinxed me too, as i crashed on my way to work today. . . i've been riding bikes pretty much my whole life and never crashed before, except once (very minor) on my mtb. some idiot in a new mercedes benz wagon decided to turn left from the middle lane on a one-way street, and there was me and another rider both in the left lane. he went right between us, cut me off, slammed on his brakes, and blocked the entire lane, i swerved and avoided the car but still went down. i just got scraped up all over and my bars are all scraped to hell like skateboard trucks. they are steel nitto b123's, so they're not bent- new bar tape should cover em up fine. 2 lessons learned:
1) wear a helmet. next time i might not be so lucky. 2) the nicer the car, the *****tier the driver. |
i've crashed 4x in nine months. one was when my apparently stripped hub failed enthusiastically as i was accelerating. i fell somehow. landed in garbage cans at the curb. another time i was doing a tight circle cause i saw a cigarette pack on the ground and wanted to see if there were any cigarettes in it, and i fell over and my knee was uncomfortably painful for several days. this summer i was knocked off my bike--the ol' bike land, SUV-turning-right phenomenon. and then this summer, a friend and i bumped into each other whilst riding. you know what i like about minor accidents? you get drivetrain marks in funny places and think, how the f.u.c.k. did i get a mark there?
then again, early in the spring, nonfixed, i did the going-down-hill-too-fast-and-turning-on-street-silt wipeout. also experienced the pain that results from a lack of skin on one's palms |
every friggin day it seems like

Judging from your avatar, you too know the reason for that;)
