chains with a screw? SWEET!

so i've been tweaking my ride to get it 'just so' for a while now and i'm always thinking what a pain in the arse it is to remove the chain to clean it. i just read that something like 90% of chain failures occur where a chain pin has been removed and improperly put back in. the next most frequesnt time to break one is when the chain is moving from one gear to another, and that won't be a proble here, obviously.

i see some of the NJS chains have a machine screw in a link to facilitate easy chain removal. SWEET! do any of you have experience with these? they are a bit pricey compared to the crappy SRAM-1 i am running now, but i may as well spend the cash on bikes because if i don't i'll just use it for drugs and alcohol. the gold links look pretty sweet too, as do the all black ones.

other than strength do they offer any other benefits? how much smoother do they run than the SRAMS? i'm only 170lbs so i won't be breaking a 1/8 inch chain anytime soon.

comments?

thanks!

even the cheaper izumi chains have a master link. The one I have doesn't even use a master pin, but instead has a clip that keeps the master link together. I'm a little weary of this but it seems to be sturdy enough, I guess only time will tell.

Don't be weary. This is the system that came over from motorcycle chains. It's plenty strong.

I have one and it works great. I never think of checking it. i'm just terrified of losing the screw or the nut if i take the chain off. The Izumi Mark V is a little expensive but its real heavy duty...it would take alot to break that thing. plus its got gold links...

i like that only a few of the links are in focus and everything else is out including the screw/nut, that is a pic advertising the screw/nut right?

not to mention the stains on the table, I mean come on now, a little prep work wouldn't kill you would it?

sadly I can't, I'm not able to fit my bike in the back of my car along with my two tool boxes, and I'm low on money and saving up for a place to live/new wheels....... some day though, some day.

I run one (the blue HKK), it works like a champ.

Smooth as butter.

No, just lens characteristics. He got in that tight because that was the composition he wanted (I guess), but his lens couldn't focus any closer than the links (or that's where the auto focus sensor caught first). Depth of field goes out the window when you're shooting that close (even if your lens is closed down all the way) so that's why so much in the shot is out of focus.

Ps. Sorry for the lame jargon - I pay the bills as a freelance photographer's assistant.
