aluminum welds...

so i recently bought a frame on ebay being sold by a guitar shop. it hasnt arrived yet. they listed it as aluminum but the welds look way too clean to be aluminum. im wondering, should i assume the people listing it had no clue and that ive got a steel frame coming my way (im hoping this is the case)? landsharks site makes it seem like they shy away from aluminum and only deal in carbon and steel. pic attached

landshark? yarr it be steel matey.and fillet brzed, not welded.

that's one of the only landshark frames I've ever seen without a vomit inducing/inspired paintjob.

you bought a LANDSHARK!!!!

Those things are HOTTTT.

He's got this propensity for making wheel-lickers that I'm not too into, but I think some of his paintjobs are mindblowing.

That's gonna be a hot bike. FWIW, though, aluminum frames can look like that, too. My Basso's tubes flow together absurdly smoothly.

I am pretty sure that it is steel. You usually see aluminum frames with a seat tube collar separate from the frame or reinforced edge if the clamping screw goes through the frame material itself. Of course, I could be completely wrong.

turns out the frame is not only steel but columbus tubing and it included a campy headset. and the icing on the cake is that the bike is way too small for me.

the ebay seller probably picked it up and was like, 'gawd dang this thangs too durn lite to be made outta steel'

treechunk 10-18-05 08:03 PM

how much did you pay for it?

mrRed 10-18-05 09:29 PM

my trek 1500 is all aluminum as well and have pretty much seamless welds. Its probably just a well done frame.

bostontrevor 10-18-05 09:31 PM

Ha. I read this thread and then just now I saw a that there was a Landshark on Craig's List and I was thinking to myself, "Self, that's a damn coincidence. Looky here, someone's selling a Landshark just as someone else was talking about how they just bought one."

Riiiiight.

griffin_ 10-18-05 09:44 PM

thats hot
damn shame about the sizing

I agree, this Anchor I saw a while back was incredible. Unfortunately I only had my phone to take the picture and it was behind glass.

thats the nicest looking landshark i've seen in a while... usually I get turned off by their technicolor paintjobs. What size is that?

jfmckenna 10-19-05 10:16 AM

I'm surprised no one mentioned the magnet test. Nice frames at a guitar shop near you.

your_mother 10-19-05 07:11 PM
