Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Should I be pissed?

I bought a pair of hubs (Suzue Promax fix-fix, loose ball) from a shop in Brooklyn when I got my frame through them. Nice service, knowledgeable, friendly owner, had a tandem fix that he wouldn't sell me and lots of internal gear bikes--all in all, good shop. Would patronize more often if I didn't live so bloody far uptown.

Anyway, staying in on a friday night and not working on the paper that I told myself I'd be writing, I take apart my hubs and find two problems: 1)The axle on the rear hub is stripped where the washer goes between the loacknut and the cone. Can't take the cone off on one side. 2) The threads for the left-side lockring are damaged--if I get a lockring on there, I may not get it off without stripping the hub.

I've never bought new parts that have been ****ed up before. Granted, they are not THAT ****ed up, but still...

Another complication--I've already built them into wheels.

don't be pissed until he tells you 'tough ****'. take the parts back and explain the situation first.
