Here is the only photo of mine about 4 months ago... Its not the most rare bike or anything... just good classice fun.... plus ive added a few more Italian bits since... i think the funnest thing besides riding it is trying to find all the components!

This is not to denigrate the ride quality of Italian frames, but solely the finish-work. Some of the bikes in this thread look great, but I'm curious if the lug finishing/paint quality in person are as nice.

Any Italian advocates care to comment?

Every Italian bike I've had has come with the most fragile finishes. Just looking at them wrong makes the paint chip. That said, I find the finish to be up to snuff, just not very durable. Although, my De Rosa does have some sloppy detaiing in the seat cluster. See photo.

Campy tubular rims. yep ;) I also replaced the ITM seatpost with a C-Record one.

I have noticed a couple paint chips, but otherwise its holding up and still looks fantastic. The lug's are quite refined no problems there.

My Colnago seems to be holding up well, paint-wise. On one side part of the C decal has flaked off/faded -- the bike is old, it's a Colnago 72 and I'm it's third owner. Meticulously cared for though judging by the condition it's in after two decades. I don't plan on riding it up on the street much so I can't really say in the long run since I don't plan on beating it up either.

i would post a picture of my lygie but its not a track frame =(

r-dub 01-19-06 05:52 PM

the paint on my Masi chipped as I was putting the top tube protector on. Yep, foam will chip an Italian frame...that said, the ride is incredible.

yup, that's me... although i've since sold the frame. everytime i see a tt frame, i just want to ride it though... something about the drop on it... makes me want to go really fast.

thanks for the vote though man!

re: italian paint jobs...
the colnago has a solid paint job... haven't noticed it being that fragile (yet). i don't ride it as much as the other frames though. as to construction and ride... it's super solid and dream to ride. comparable to a japanese frame in my book...

80's (Italian Bianchi).

i cannot believe you are still riding it around with it being in THAT condition...scrap that and get a properly finished frame

Sadly I wrecked this bike in a stupid accident, front wheel and saddle are gone. The frame came out of it unscaved, unlike my helmet and sholder.

Wait until you see what he's trading it for. Definitely a trade up....

That reminds me, I need to start a 'British Fixation' thread.

That reminds me to get my Gianni Motta from storage. It has been locked up for 16 months.
