Upgraded Moto Messenger

Hey all, just got my first single speed. I saw the orange Moto Messenger and had to get it for the orange paint. :) Just got finished putting on the bullhorn handlebars - I have some black Velocity Deep V wheels with black IRO hubs and spokes on the way. Also some Vredestein orange on orange tires. :)

nice!
(where'd you find orange tires?)

good choice on the wheel upgrade. those IRO wheels should last you a good nice smoothe-rollin' long time, especially compared to the stock ones that came with the bike--which, by the way, may be very nice for the occasional four weather ride!

if you go fixed (and i recommend you try it!!!!!!!!), tony from IRO recommends using a good cog on his wheels. i don't know what came on your motobecane but i'd recommend getting a dura-ace or eai cog (or surly or soma or a few others people may mention). cheap cogs have a tendency of f-ing up your hub's threads. same goes for lockring.

Thanks for the suggestions - I'm new to the single/fixed world and am still learning whats good component wise.

Several folks make orange tires out there. Vredestein has a couple. you can find Conti 3000's on close out here and there and I'm told the new 4000 in "Conti Yellow" is actually orange....

When I started looking I posted a thread over at RBR asking the same thing. Its located here: http://forums.roadbikereview.com/showthread.php?t=45796

arrhg -for cryin' out loud... :D

sorry - didn't have a respectable set of cable cutters on hand last night when I finished the build so I coiled it up and zipped tied it down...

It'll be gone....soon...I hope. ;)

oh, i love it - the color is fabulous. hmmm. i do need a new bike at about that price - and i have all winter to save up. how does it ride?

ravenmore 11-18-05 09:34 PM

well, to be honest, I can't really comment about the ride yet. I've ridden nothing but race geometry aluminum frames for the past couple of years. A steel frame with aero tt bars is a completely different beast, and frankly, one that takes getting used to. I tend to oversteer on it - I think its the length of the aero bars compared to regular drop bars.

huh, well with the quality of the enlarged image it sort of looked like one of those metal spring pant leg clips, poor sight for me

or abundance of cable it is

I think my least-favorite part of those deals is the stem.
