Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? I have a question, I need to carry stuff sometimes and don't always want to have to bring my bag. Are racks good for anything besides using panniers? I don't want panniers, so i'm thinking a high quality metal basket would be a better option?

My friend has this: https://www.amazon.com/Toba-Brooklyn-...ef=pd_sxp_f_pt and swears by it. I ride with him all the time and usually he'll just ride with a fanny pack and then whatever he needs to he'll put in this guy. They make nicer ones, but this one gets the job done.

What is my posture suppose to be like when riding with drops? I've ridden with Nitto B123s and Fyxation Comet drops and no matter what I do I feel like I have to stretch my neck up to be able to see in front of me which causes neck pain. Are drop bars just not for me?

Not looking for new handlebars thanks for the suggestion though.

It's all a matter of flexibility. If your neck hurts from being in the drops, move your stem up and see if it fixes the problem. You probably have too much saddle/bar drop.

+1 for racks. I have a Cetma Halfrack and love it. Summer times when I don't feel like wearing a bag, just load up the rack with the essentials and call it a day. You can always opt for a Wald basket if you don't feel like spending a ton.

Thanks man the Wald baskets look nice, they attach to the front axle and handlebars. Good price too, thanks for the recommendation. Only if it's no trouble and you already have one, could you post a picture of how you load stuff onto the half rack?

Bungee cords work well.

Why do people feel the need to put the words "the" and "thread" in the titles of threads?

This is like calling a Honda Accord "The Honda Accord Car".

The title of this thread should be "Quick Questions" not "The Quick Questions Thread".

Now, in order to refer to this thread, we must say, "Please visit the 'The Quick Questions Thread' thread." as opposed to us saying, "Please visit the 'Quick Questions' thread."

Riding in deep drops creates a much-improved aerodynamic profile.

Pros:
- Less wind resistance at high speeds (over 30mph)

Cons:
- Not comfortable
- Severely limits vision (in front and especially peripheral vision)

Evaluate what is important to you and decide if you need to have deep drop bars. My estimation is that you don't need them...just like 99.9% of street fixed gear riders. The only real-world advantage may be when riding into a headwind on a bike-only path.

This is why 99.9% of street fixed gear riders with deep track drops NEVER USE THE DROPS. They keep their hands on the tops which closes their chest and is uncomfortable and hinders steering.

This is why those that do switch, switch to risers or bullhorn bars.

People buy "track" bars for their "track" bikes thinking that's what you are supposed to do. But if you aren't on the TRACK, then it's not what you are supposed to do. Now if you consider your bike to be a Street Fixed-Gear, then you'll probably consider equipment that is better suited for the job

Probably for the same reason a lot of folks (possibly including you) have a habit of saying they need to use the ATM machine or change their PIN number.

Get over it, man.

Chillax, this thread was only created someodd 4 months after you first registered. You shouldn't have been too annoyed with "thread" threads as you state in this post post.

There, I changed it anyhow.

anyone here have any experience with shimanos rt82 spd shoes?

Im going to be replacing my specialized touring elites in the near future as they are wearing out and nearing the end. I love the walkable soles on my specialized and the shimanos have those.
https://road.cc/content/review/90820-...-rt82-spd-shoe
https://www.roadbikerider.com/product...-touring-shoes

I would like to add that i absolutely loved my touring elites. i think ive had them for two or three years or so. there isnt a downside to them in my opinion they are just warn out...

FTR, i use rt82 shoes and like them. But heyre my first bike shoe so take it with a grain of salt.

I have question to though. Are there any durability issues or any thing like that running a ss with a spacer kit compared to a dedicated ss hub? Im a newb.
