I have just converted my Dahon Getaway ( 20 inch wheel coaster brake single speed) to a fixie with a bmx wheel and 16T fixed cog secured with loctite red. I have used this method before with a 16 inch wheel bike as a winter rider. It works well and safely for recreational riding on snow and ice.My question is has anyone used loctite blue to do the same thing. To get the cog off while using red i will have to heat it to 260 degrees to loosen it . A cog secured with loctite blue would be easier to remove should i ever wish to, but is it safe? :o

Do you have a bb lockring? with that, assuming it's tightened enough, the cog isn't coming off even if you don't have any loctite at all. Way more likely that the threads will eventually strip.

I run my bumbike hub with blue loctite. It's been flawless for almost 2k miles now. I skip, skid, aggressively backpedal, etc. Not a single problem. I gots a front brake also. Works for me.

i think its mentioned before, but if you're not running a brake, please wear a ginormous bright orance dunce hat on your head so we can all stay far far out of the way.

The problem is that you have competing goals:
1) want the cog to not unthread itself when riding
2) want the cog to come off easily when wrenching

The solution is to use the correct technology (a fixed hub with a reverse-threaded lockring.) If you're going to cheat on that solution, then don't expect good results, choose either safe to ride and hard to remove, or suicidal but easy to wrench on. I'd go with the red AND a bb ring.

The problem with that is that this folder has 110mm spacing (or so I assume, he used a BMX wheel), and most track hubs are 120mm. Plus, take into account the ridiculously short stays, and bending the frame that much becomes a real hassle.

So, the only REAL way to get a safe fixed hub on that bike is to find a 110mm keirin rear hub ($$$$$) or convert a 120mm hub by removing spacers (Suzue's and DA's, usually). Either way, a boatload of cash for one lousy tiny wheel.

Or, you could just keep using your suicide wheel with a brake. I did it all summer with a rotafixed blue loctite wheel. Not much skipping or skidding, but it held anyways.

ps. I used green Loctite and rotafixa method to secure the lockring. And itäs kinda hard to skid with this bike.

it's completely safe. it comes 'highly' recommended. don't be a baby and use brakes either.

A little redundancy in stopping wouldn't hurt your safety. Put a brake on.

As I stated I have had good results with red loctite if i could afford a track hub and a handbuilt wheel I would buy them.I really would like to whittle down my number of bicycles and a fixed and free wheel would eliminate one bike.I am however currently financially challenged ,so food, shelter ,my phone bill etc take priority. I never stomp and i do not skid the wheel.I also run a front brake.I ****** the the pedals to slow the bike but i do not go that fast anyway .The 20 inch wheel fixie ( Dahon Getaway)will be my antidote for cabin fever.My 16 inch wheel fix( Dahon formerly a classic 3) allowed me to play on ice and snow without falling.The 20 incher should be slightly faster.Tires are tioga comp 3's 20 x 1.50 inflatable to 60 psi.

I have four fixed conversions 2 Dahons and 1 yeah ( A liscense built Dahon clone ) All use a fixed cog and red loctite .I also have Roll N fold fixie 14 inch tires with a fixed cog and red loctite . They all fold. The roll n fold went with me to Milwaukee Wisconson and Coronado California in a suitcase.
