From the Demoncats List... emphasis is mine-- nonracing pirates, c'mon out and help!

email from Libby:

Just got off the phone w/ Rico's mother. Apparently he had gotten a bit better and they moved him to a regular room, then had a setback and he's back in ICU. He still has not regained consciousness.

She has all of the paperwork from the insurance company and is meeting with a social worker to get help filling out the forms. Hopefully some disability payments will start coming in very soon. In the meantime, I have Rico's last paycheck and a get well card from some bikers in Toronto that I'm going to deliver to her house tonight.

My lame-ass do-nothing scooterist buddies are meeting for burgers tonight at Red Lion. Hopefully I'll get some more folks to do checkpoint duty on Saturday. Already checked w/ Peter Bunnell (red Yamaha Riva - works for Apple and a couple other companies, too), but he'll be out of town. Anyway, I'm still working on it.

Great job! Thanks -

Libby

If you get 5 guys, you should be able to beat the price of 5 bus tickets, but gas and tolls will add another 60 (210 miles from Ctown wonder how I know that?)

bring a sleeping bag or simular. I have a spare BR w a full size aero bed, a couch and fair amount of floor space that is not occupied by bikes. I'm also 10 blocks from Ctown bus and 10 blocks from the start of the race. Just let me know who to expect and when. I'll cover as many as will fit! I only met Rico twice but he is a very nice person.

DCBFFGSSMnG it is, too bad there is not enough time to make T-shirts...LBK???

poopncow 11-29-05 11:07 AM

Emayex, you know there are C town buses from Phillie to DC too

chimblysweep 11-29-05 11:09 AM

i just found a nearly full 1.5L of jagermeister in my freezer.

game on.

poopncow 11-29-05 11:13 AM

you need to bring that over to my freezer, will keep the Sparks company next door

chimblysweep 11-29-05 12:32 PM

I just ask John about folks who can't make the race but want to donate- if there is a paypal. He says:

no, tell them to give you the money. we are putting it in a big plastic water (cooler-type) bottle. Then cutting open with people in attendance to verify the amount.

you know i'm pretty honest!

CC Rental, Inc:
212.239.3333
537-547 10th Ave
15 passenger van -
2+ days = $99/day $499/week.
100 miles per day included, 26¢/mile after that.

3 days + 420 miles + $80 (gas & tolls round trip) ~ $400
1 RT bus ticket via chinatown bus = $35

Last time I rented a truck, I lost over $100, so I ain't doin' it this time.

chimblysweep 11-29-05 01:18 PM

to go to LOTCR we rented an impala. it fit our bikes in the 3 trunk and our 3 selves in the car. $40/day. you could get a minivan for $50.

s_9 11-29-05 01:52 PM

I take that back. It'd only be 2 days worth of rental....but then the mileage is all off. OK. New estimate = $320

I'll either bus it or go with Squid. If he needs people to ride with him, I'll let you know.

poopncow 11-29-05 02:00 PM

Which one is Squid? Who is KF and is the Wangster coming too? did anyone hit up msngr and FNB?

wangster 11-29-05 02:03 PM

'The Wangster'.... I like that... The Wangster doesn't know yet if he will join in the fun... msngr prob won't make it... and FNB is MIA until someone calls him.

I don't think Squid is on the forums, but I'm sure you've seen him around.

poopncow 11-29-05 03:06 PM

The wangster better make it or he'll find himself swimming home from SI after the 5 boro tour

From what I gather, he is refering to the one in the middle,
Team Puma Captain: Kevin Bulger, aka Squid

on another note - guess i didn't put the two together, but isn't the guy on the far right the same guy from the "messenger" dvd that pops its head up around these parts every so often?
anyone remember his name?
I want to say Eddie Ortega...

s_9 11-29-05 03:33 PM

yes. Alfred Bobe.

And for that matter, the second from left is marcelinyc

knifefight 11-29-05 03:34 PM

Alfred Bobe Jr. is the very one who pops up in those videos.

wangster 11-29-05 03:47 PM

Its great that marcelinyc aka polish hammer is the only one with a big 'ol grin on his face... Did anyone see him pull the wheelchair marathoner during the NYC race earlier this month?

spud 11-30-05 02:50 PM

all that puma gear is hilarious :)

so whats the latest news, you guys find the van yet?

wangster 11-30-05 02:55 PM

knifefight might be able to get his hands on a stationwagon...

chimblysweep 11-30-05 03:01 PM

so, NYC - when are you guys planning on getting here/leaving?

just wondering if you're in for Friday night race/pillage or saturday pre-race fooding.

yeah! If so, I'm down to get in on that.

Maybe we can have a "Family Truckster" experience. Hope we find out soon...fingers are X'ed

knifefight 11-30-05 05:54 PM

Regardless if we're in a stationwagon or taking the bus, I'm in for some Friday night pillaging. However, either way we won't be getting in till around midnight. You guys go to bed early?
I'm thinking on leaving early-ish on Sunday.

Msngr 11-30-05 07:07 PM

guys, i've been lurking and trying to find a way to make this happen. funds are tighter than ever since i went back on the crack pipe.

i guess i won't really know what's up until friday, but my vote is in for the cheapest option.

knifefight 11-30-05 07:57 PM

S_9's math adds up, surprisingly.
Even if we stuff six or seven of us in a minivan, it'll still be more expensive than the bus.
I'm on the bus, the 7:30 one on Friday night.

wangster 11-30-05 08:18 PM

which part of DC are we going to be in? It seems that I'll def go, but won't be able to leave till sat morning. My ride wants to know which part of DC? and who can give me a place to crash?

spud 11-30-05 11:46 PM

pnc's place is around 5th and R NW. i'm pretty sure he still has some room for people.

poopncow 11-30-05 11:58 PM

Dudes, you are all welcomed to crash. Space will be tight, but it is cool if you are. PM me for my phone number. I am at 5th St and R St NW, the quadrant is very important, NW. The area is known as Shaw, 10 blocks from Dupont circle where the race will start. I like to think of it as the Alphabite City of DC :P

Map Quest for directions, or take 95 to Baltimole Washington Xpressway (295)
get off on rt 50 going west, take 50 w which is NY ave to NJ ave, turn right go to R st right on 5 st. simple as pi

If you end up on the other side of DC, the green line metro (subway) stops 3 blocks away (SHAW)

please let me know who and when, plus bring a sleeping bag or something. I'll cover the towels.

poopncow 12-01-05 12:17 AM

Knife, if you take the C town bus, you'll be getting off at either H st or I st and 7th NW. By the time you get in, we'll might be drunk at pirate home base (7th and NY ave ... 3 block from the bus) or totally smashed beyond reason at my place. DC is relatively simple. the capitol building is the center, numbered streets go up as you travel east and west away from the cap (like away from McDonald Ave). Letter streets go up as you go North and South (like you are traveling along Ocean pkway from church ave) away from the capitol. So for example 4st and D st have 4 possibilities, so you need to follow it with NW NE SE or SW. then there are ave named after states that run at angles ... like Bway whch gives you short cuts :)

EDIT: Turn left on R st then right on 5th.

House rules: no smoking in the house and shoes are left at the door.

If we run out of room, I'll try to ask the bike shop around the block (we have a pirate with a key) to let us store our bikes there. If all else fails, I have a fenced in yard that we can gang lock everything together.

chimblysweep 12-01-05 08:51 AM

I can also fit 1-2 people in my place if you don't mind us all sharing a room - i don't. (Maybe Friday arrivals go to PNC's and Saturday stragglers to my place?)

I'm in Adams Morgan - about 2 mi from PNC's place at 16th and Kalorama (3 blocks north of 16th & V if you'd prefer to stay on the numbers/letters grid).

We'll be up at midnight, no problem. Just give us a call.

ALSO: HIGHLY RECOMMENDED: Check out the Dragon Coach or the Vamoose Bus. Both have websites. These "chinatown buses" pick up around Herald Sq or Madison Sq Garden and drop in Downtown DC. A bit more conveinent, same cost.

wangster 12-01-05 09:33 AM

Okay, so my buddy is going to drive me and a few folk down to DC on sat morning, we should be there by 12. So far I have me, Ch0mb0, knifefight, Ellen(?), and still waiting to hear from msngr and S_9. I'm not sure if I can fit that many, but we'll see...
