Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Iro Rob Roy (SS CX frames)

Or other single speed cyclocross bikes that might be good? I'm looking to ditch my chrome Pista for something that I feel is going to offer the same lightweight reliability, but can also handle a little better off road and in bad weather. What are your suggestions?

Rob Roy and Bianchi San Jose are about the same price. Not sure what wheels come on the IRO, but the bianchi's got a single-sided freewheel-threaded hub.

If you're feeling spendier, check out some of the offerings from Spot, Kelly, or Steelman.
