How big is your scene?
I ask because I am curious what size of fixie groups occur in other cities. For example, the whole island of oahu, I'll be lucky to have more than 15 participants in the alleycat this weekend. I'll be lucky to even have 15. On an average booze and cruise its about 5 of us, and only one is currently a messenger.
And no, This isn't meant a a hipster scene thread. I'm just wondering the size of dedicated and associating fixie riders in cities |
there are about 1000 riders in SF and each one is its own scene.
there was a peugeot locked up next to me at the library tonight. that's at least two.
there was an alleycat around christmas. i'd say there were maybe 25 people at the start...but how many were riding fixies, i don't know. i don't know anyone up here. but i do see a couple around town now and then.
Um, there's a lot of fixies around here. As far as groups/whatever I don't ride with too many people. But events like the Stupor Bowl and the Drunken NE Bar Bike Tours draw a lot of people. There were something like 3-400 people on the last drunk tour I think, but that was all kinds of bikes. Seriously, I doubt there was a kind of bike that you COULDN'T find there...

Is there a Chinatown bus to Oahu? NYC will bring a posse.
I think the 56 will bring you there
probably 15 strong in a city of roughly a million (dallas)
About six...
Southern RI has 2. Providence has a decent scene, considering it's size.
Its me, my friends Kevin, John and Matt. Thats it.
in my coastal inaka town of japan...me.
el zippo. well, not really. i've only ridden with one other fixed rider around here. i've seen a couple locked up during the day; i'm guessing they are some folks commuters. 20 minutes south, i see quite a few more in boulder. downtown denver? quite a few.
no real scene to speak of though up here though. i just commute, and do my road rides on mine. liked it enough once i started riding it, i just recently got rid of my geared road bike. |

there are about two here in chicago.
me and teadogg. [165] doesn't count because he is in the suburbs. |
Oklahoma actually seems to have a moderate scene. Maybe not fixed/track but deffenatly alot of cyclists. Probably because of the good weather.
Hundreds. Maybe even thousands depending on where you draw the border. Seattle is a pretty big bike town.
Not sure how much I can say about the "scene". I do Critical Mass when I can. In summer it's 150-200 people. In the winter it's sometimes down to 50 or 60. I did the "Cops & Robbers" quasi-alleycat (on my road bike no less. hah!) though, and there were a ****load of people. Probably 200+. I'm really the only bike nerd in my group of friends, so I don't participate that much in the "scene". If it's one of the first 3 weeks in July chances are very good that you'll find me at the Summit Tavern after work taking in the TDF though. I'm planning to do the 2006 STP ride fixed, maybe in one day (a very long day). It would be nice to have a group to train/ride it with. It's a long way off, but if anyone's interested in doing some fixed training rides or getting a group together, send me a PM. |

i can think of maybe 7 of us here although when i was in the shop closest to my house the other week they were putting together someones jonny cycles frame that had just been built. some older guy and i've never seen him riding around.
1 out of every 3 bikes I see in Chicago is either a track bike or a bike that was converted to fixed or singlespeed.
I've seen one other guy, but I don't know him. I guess if I get a chance to strike up a conversation about bikes we will officially be a scene of 2
Yeah, it's just me, really.
