Want to convert my '72 Raleigh..
First conversion, want to do it myself, preferably on the cheap... any suggestions?

I have converted more Raleighs than I care to discuss.
If you need assistance or have any tech questions PM me.
First replace all the steel components with Al (a weight savings of 8 lbs)
While you have the bike apart inspect the tubes for interior rust.
Spray the inside of the tubes liberally w/WD-40.
Replace all caged bearings with free-balls.
Use Marine bearing grease (waterproof and cheap)

Enjoy
