probably karma for putting that puma fg101 on ebay

coming down 2nd in the bike lane, guy in a towncar passes me, then turns left about 6 feet in front of me. i tried to turn with him, hit him hard, went down, slid along the street.
bars are scratched and for some reason there's a ding on the top of the stem. both new nitto *****
ass pocket is ripped out of my jeans and my toe strap is all ground down where it hit the deck with my foot still in it.
other than that all good. my first time getting hit in 7 years of riding in ny, nothing broken. got away light i guess

pitboss 12-16-05 03:18 PM

wangster 12-16-05 03:22 PM

teiaperigosa 12-16-05 03:26 PM

damn...good you're ok
that very common situation is one of the toughest things about riding a bike, and it all usually comes down to the motorist not 'seeing' you (of course motorist are programmed not to LOOK for you in the first place)...unfortunately we are forced to be dependent upon lazer quick anticipations and reactions

do you think it was your fault(or that you could have avoided it)? what was the conversation afterwards? do you have the all too common cracked in half helmet?
more details please

eddiebrannan 12-16-05 03:26 PM

guy stopped. he was shook. arab guy - maybe his papers weren't straight - whatever. he was real nervous, trying to shake my hand saying like "all is good, you let me go." i checked my wheels were true and told him "walaikum salaam," and let him get he **** outta there.
i just realized my ass pocket is all ripped in the shape of my u-lock. must've sat down on it and slid along. the lock's all chewed up along the edges, but probably helped me slide easier. probably gonna have a u-shaped bruise on my butt :)

harryhood 12-16-05 03:27 PM

now you're good for another 7 years! glad you're OK....

YellowFixedGear 12-16-05 03:29 PM

good thing you are ok..

absntr 12-16-05 03:29 PM

Glad you're okay Eddie. 7 years is pretty good. You handled it pretty well too.

eddiebrannan 12-16-05 03:29 PM

nah he knew it was his fault. he passed me and hardly had his rear wheel past me before he turned literally six feet infront of me. i was travelling straight down the ave, with the lights, he didn't indicate.

i didn't hit my head. no helmet so good thing

eyefloater 12-16-05 03:35 PM

Glad to hear you're okay, Eddie. Heal up quick.

teiaperigosa 12-16-05 03:35 PM

yea...I hate when that happens...when they speed up just so they can cut you off and make their turn 'quicker' than if they just went behind you

I also hate when cars get antsy behind the gas to get around you and are just running toward a stop light or some more traffic...that's when I love to pass them and shake my head in front of them

be safe yall

whoosh! 12-16-05 03:39 PM

this truly is the time of year for eating it.

going down the bike lane last night i had about 10 inches of width to work with, due to ice covering 90% of the lane, and as per usual, some ancient ass crackhead was walking down the bike lane. i yelled, he jumped on the ice buildup, and as i passed him, he slipped on the ice, fell into me, just as a car was passing on the left. i lost balance, and thwacked my head on the passenger door of the car.

the driver slammed on the brakes, got out, looked me in the eye, and said "whadda****isyoprollem, eh!?!"

i shrugged and pointed at the crackhead now groaning while face down in the ice.

sorry for the thread jack, but this was my best crash in a looooong time.

yup that's the one. only i can't believe the guy saw me cause if he had he was trying to kill me. asleep at the ****ing wheel as usual and too lazy to move his finger two inches to hit the indicator (not that that would have made a difference). should have hit him with my u lock and then told him peace.

damn back and arm starting to ache now

$0.00/Gal 12-16-05 03:41 PM

2005 has been accident free for me. The closest I came to anything was last week riding home completely wasted from Ira's party. I was going down my 1 way street the wrong way and was pretty much too drunk to care that there was a car coming at me head on. Good thing it saw me!

Glad you're ok, Eddie.

Matthew A Brown 12-16-05 03:47 PM

Good to see your ok. **** can be hairy.

Where on 2nd?

eddiebrannan 12-16-05 03:50 PM

12th i think. one of the eastbound streets below 14th

Yea but only 7 more lives left too ;)

Amazing the wheels came through OK. Glad your not hurt.

EnLaCalle 12-16-05 03:53 PM

Yeah. that'll hurt later. Glad you're okay. You should wear a helmet. It's a battle with those cabbies and black cars.

boots 12-16-05 03:56 PM

i find that the worst are not the cabbies or town cars but mercedes and bmws. something about rich people, or at least rich people who feel they need to prove it with their cars, makes them total arshholes on the road. actually the absolute worst are livery mercedes. the drivers might not be rich, but they act rich. ******bags.

eyefloater 12-16-05 03:57 PM

Eddie, ibuprophin and a hot bath / shower. It'll help w/ the beat up muscles, hopefully.

Matthew A Brown 12-16-05 03:59 PM

Gotcha... lived on 2nd & 9th a while back. Loved it, but cutthroat.

I can't exactly *disagree* with "you should wear a helmet"-- it is a good idea-- but honestly I think I've been much better served with a ballcap and a mirror.

That's just me, though.

I'll also admit to being perversely jealous. Think I'd rather be getting hit in New York than not getting hit in north Florida. Eh.

edit: What Eyefloater said. Anti-inflammatories, quite a bit of water, rest, etc. It'll help.

HereNT 12-16-05 04:05 PM

Glad you're OK. The ding in the top tube is probably from your handlebars - I've got one on my bike from mine, too...

habitus 12-16-05 04:09 PM

exciting, huh!?!

j/k. kinda.

anyway, ditto on all the kind words here. keep ridin'.
