C Record Crank Chainline Question
I have a 70's Bottecchia frame that I'm going to fix and I want to use C Record cranks. I have yet to purchase a bottom bracket and before I do, I wondered what bottom bracket others have used to get a good chainline.
Thanks in advance,
Eric

first off..you are limited by the bottom bracket because campy cranks mate to campy bottom brackets because of taper size. i think phil makes a spindle that matches campy cranks but i'm not positive.

not necessarily.
i've been running a cartridge shimano un72 with campy (old) record cranks for years. the crank just doesn't sit down as far on the taper. about 2-3 mm. so for a good chinline i think i'm running a 106mm bb for a straight chainline.
depends if you're talkin c-record track or the outboard double of c-record road (which is a few mm further out)
with track: 109mm-111mm campy, or 106mm shimano
with road, dunno get some calipers and start measuring....

It's a C Record road crank - so I'm thinking outboard double position for the chainring. The crank, in road trim, was originally designed to go with a 111 mm spindle if that helps.
