tightness
So following my recent complications with pedals, I'd like to know, once and for all, how tight should I tighten bolts and parts?
I generally tighten things as tight as possible or to the point that I feel should be fine, but thats not very reassuring. So far I've been told about 30 ft.# for crankarm bolts. What about the others? I'm gonna start getting anal about all this and buy a torque wrench. So how many ft#'s should I tighten things? Seatpost, stem, crank, chainring, pedals, hubs? |
torque 'er down til ya strip 'er and then back it off a turn or two! :D

good call on the torque wrench, wang. my guess is you'll realize how much you were undertorquing most bolts.

I usually just tighten stuff down pretty well...and then check it once in a while...
if it comes loose, then I know I need to tighten it down better the next time |

You're my new hero. I'm full of useless info, whereas you're full of useful links. |
I once read that when doing bicycle repair, most people over tighten small bolts and under tighten large bolts.

wow...that parktool link at a quick glance is craaaazy...lots of info on various topics
that goes on my bookmarks along with sheldon brown |
For those w/o torque wrenches or lots of info, just remember that some stuff tightens while riding, so for those items there is no need to overtighten them.
