I'm with Jim-Bob on this one. I like this chain ring a whole lot more than the one that Don Walker posted, though.

Those parts deserve a better frame, not some ugly-ass gaspipe mixte.

And that radial front wheel is totally fugs on that bike.

I guess I don't really dig that whole bike.

I kinda like the cranks, but we still can't buy them yet anyway. I would like to know when we can.

these paul cranks look like medieval ironwork. like someone ripped them off of a fence outside a cathedral.

I'm really curious as to how the chainring attaches to the crank arm.

As for proprietary, if it catches on at all, Boone will make you Ti rings and then you can bling the f%$# out of it.

I'm guessing that the guy (or girl) either works for Paul or kows him well. Everything on that bike is Paul and the guys email is from CSU Chico. I would need to see the cranks up close but I dig them so far. Most of the parts I've seen from Paul have been solid. He is a nice guy too.

once paul offers a normal crankset, i'm sure it will blast off. if the tech specs and care on it are anything like their other parts, it's gonna be hot

i like the cranks and would love to get some but i emailed paul and was told they may or may not go into production in 06 depending on if they move into a bigger space and add more machinery.

so are these basically bmx-style cranks?

What's the difference between bmx-style cranks and others? Not meaning to sound snarky, I just thought that cranks were cranks.

i know that my mapei hat is ugly as ****. that's precisely why i own it. unfortunately, i don't think the person knows that the paul cranks are a ****ing abomination.

bmx cranks mount to an axle exactly the same each side. there's no spider or chainring. there's a sprocket and it is bolted directly to the crank.

these seem to be that type of set-up rather than the conventional road/track/mtb spider-and-chainring set-up.

Some BMX cranks dont use a 'spider', but rather attatch the chainring to the crank at only one point.

bmx cranks are known for having a high Q Factor! hehe, and not all bmx cranks bolt on like eddiebrannan described. a lot of higher end bmx cranks (200 bucks!) are just like track cranks

I worked at one of the first shops in SF to sell fixed gear hubs and bikes to the general public. Nobody was too interested back then, though.

I'm just curious why Paul went with a proprietary chainring/crank interface instead of going with an already existing standard. (It's not just him. The same thing bothers me about the White Industries crank.)

which ones? i've only seen BMX cranks that either have a sepearate spider or no spider with solid chainwheels
