Seems depressing

I've met half of the bicyclists interviewed and captured in the video. And I've only lived here for a year. And I'm not that interesting or smart. The bike community is pretty tight knit. This does allow one to avoid the pretentious ******s and make friends with the cool and knowledgeable folk, however.

The temperature is below 50 degrees for about four and a half or five months out of the year, and the wind and other weather that comes off Lake Michigan is just downright horrid. The bums and bicyclists are tenacious, the cops are almost all ticket-happy white males, the good jobs are scarce, and racism runs rampant.

A Milwaukee winter is just something one has to experience for themselves, I guess.

Now it sounds even worse! :)
Why on earth live there?

Well, it's beer city, with lots of old breweries, original home to Schlitz, Pabst, and Blatz (all of 'em bought out by Miller), and there are lots of smaller breweries, and it's got some interesting buildings, a couple cool museums, and five or six colleges. The bike and music scene are kind of small, but decent. Biking around in traffic is fun, and outsmarting the kops isn't too hard.

I am making it sound worse than it is, I suppose. Personally, I don't plan on living here for more than a year or two longer, though.

I have a friend who teaches at MIAD.
Maybe i should go visit.

If you are here and bored on a Thursday night and have a bike there is a group ride at 10 PM at Wisconsin and Water. Mainly a bunch of MIAD kids with fixies and a couple tall bikes and stuff.
