what rims are you using?
so what is everyone using lately?
I'm looking for something along the lines of a velocity deep v, with non-machined braking surface. I've been hearing alot bad about deep v's lately, such as the seams breaking. anyone else had this problem?
I would do a search, but I'm looking for current setups and current gripes.

I'm too embarrassed to say what kind of rims I'm using, and the hubs too for that matter I'd like to upgrade eventually, maybe to deep V's with Formula hubs, or something similar.

My beater currently has EAI Arrow Super Turbo rims, which are awesome, but heavy. Unfortunately, this is completely irrelevant to you, since these rims haven't been made for some time, and I bought the last four NOS last year. Or at least that's the story going around.
I have a set of deepV/phils that I beat on pretty regularly earlier in '05 and had no problems with. The only complaint I have about the DeepV is that it's a bit heavier than other rims (with the exception of the EAI Arrow which is the heaviest rim ever). Other than that I've had a really good experience with them.

well, i just started riding deep v's …i hope the seams don't break.
prior to the deep v's i was riding rigida dp-18's they are look similar to
deep v's and i believe they are available without machined braking surface.
i rode the hell out of those things for two years and i got them used from
a messenger …and they are still running strong.

if you are hearing about failures with deep v's lately, it's probably only because so many more people are using them these days than before. more often that not you'll hear reports (like i would be willing to give) of them being extremely durable and able to take a pretty brutal beating. i don't really feel a strong need to defend them, per se, but they are absolutely not a rim known for being problematic, poorly constructed, etc. all of velocity's offerings are high quality and their customer service is unmatched.

saavedra featherweights for me as well. no braking surface, semi-aero, smooth curve throughout.
who can name a set of really low-profile clinchers? I mean, seriously low... such that you might mistake them for tubulars.

36h open pros. love them.
36h wolber super champion alpine. nos, they're sturdy and i love the color but you probably won't find any.
32h araya 28"er's. they do a good job of taking up the space between the spokes and the tyres and that's about it. it's also a freaking nightmare stretching 700c's over them.

I'm thinking of going with Iro's velocity Arrowheads w/ Formulas when I eventually upgrade...did a search and it sounds like they're a good choice.

I use the cxp 22 & cxp 33. Love the cxp 33, so I got the cxp 22 for the beater and no issues so far....

I have alex td17's. they're a disc specific rim so there's no breaking surface. semi aero, all black, and cheap, $20 each. I haven't put a lot of time in on them but so far so good.

Current - CXP21 32h laced to black formulas.
Within a month - Non-machined silver or black deep vs laced to silver formulas.

Velocity Deep V's (32 hole). Sturdy and great for daily riding thus far. Been hit by a car and stayed relatively in shape enough for me to ride home. I trued them back up and they're fine.
FIR Net 97's (36 hole). Recommended to me by Marcus at Yojimbo's as a very solid sturdy (he put them up there along with CXP33's and Deep V's in terms of sturdiness) rim, semi-aero and Italian which I wanted to match up with my all-Italian ride. A bit heavy though. But tough thus far.
And recently, Mavic CXP-12's. Very light, smooth solid responsive rim. They feel "quick".
