track frame sizing

i am in the market for a track bike. this will be my first bike besides a bmx. i,m 5'11 very average proportions. what size frame would u suggest for optimal control/speed?

This all depends on how you are actually built, and the dimensions of the bikes you are looking at. The only thing that really differs when looking at track frames is the higher BB. As a result, standover measurements are going to seem larger in comparison to the frame geometry. Put another way, you will want a higher standover on a track bike than a road bike. Everything else will be similar.

as posted, a lot depends on your body, but it also depends how perfectionist/nerdy you want to get about it.

for a regular 5'11" guy, i'd say start around 56-57cm and go from there.

im about 5'11"-6' ish, and my 55cm Pista fits me perfect! I was suprised, I thought a 56 or 57 would fit better, but I went with it and it fits me really well.

I'm 5'10 and I ride a 57. Feels nice to me.

wow. that's nice to hear. i'm 6' 2" as well and haven't even tried anything smaller than 58cm. i'd love to get on a keirin frame someday and, as i'm sure you know, they're hard to find in larger sizes. how far is your saddle from the top tube?

I think it would be helpful to provide measurments rather than "typical guy" jargon.
I am 6' tall, 32 " inseam (pant size) and (sleeve) measurment is also 32"
I have found that I am most comfortable on a 56 or 57 c2t measured frame.
I also think that a c2t measure is the most accurate to determine how a frame will feel esp considering a track frame will have a larger stand over height.
The top tube is also important. A square frame works fine for me meaning that the tt is the same measure as the st...my arms are about the same as my legs

Most people ride frames that are too small. This topic has been covered a few times in the froums (do a quick search).

I am 5'9" and i ride a 55 or 54cm c-c frame.

how ridiculously small will a 55cm for a 6'2 dude be?

rattlecan 01-06-06 07:39 PM

well alot of people here in the city that ride track on the streets like them smaller (one or two sizes down )

Paul And Pista 01-06-06 08:03 PM

I'm about 6', all legs and arms. I'm sized for a 60cm seat tube, 58cm tob tube. About 34.5" standover.
