Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

I love my steel B123s. I don't care about the extra weight either. I just bought a saddle that weighs 363 grams!

the heavy bars make all the street lumps go away, don't be so quick in ditching them. i have b123 crmo & a set of the b123 aas' and i perfer the crmos' on the street, you can ride them naked with no gloves wherein the aa's make my hands hurt after awhile..

njs-

i take it like using geniune GM parts, you know what you're getting right out the door, but there are some things that i could care less about and have no problems going aftermarket.

some gals/guys are into that whole njs thing, some guys/gals are not, but choose to have an issue with those that do, i haven't quite figured that one out though i'd always thought to each their own, but i could be wrong, i guess, won't be the last time...

weird, my experience is exactly the opposite, the steel ones start to really hurt after a little while, the alu ones i can ride all day...

I hate it when roommates and old folks pretend to be interested in your bikes by lifting them five inches off of the ground, mentally weighing them, making a "hmm" face, like they're combing through a giant catalogue of knowledege, and putting them back down.

Its a track bike, can't really weight that much to begin with. I personally don't care about weight as much in a track bike since they are pretty light to begin with.

I do. My hands went numb for 2 weeks once after riding 50 miles bare handed on alum. bars.

arent both of these sentences conveying the same point? i personally think both sentences are very similar in nature, right?

off-topic, but the OP said he didn't know much about track racing; I don't either, but I found this article both informative and an extremely satisfying way to waste time.

More than anything, it made me think that I'd have to be fit like a pipe to race on a track and do well at all. What sorts of speeds are non-pro racers working with? ballpark...

used to get very frequent numbness with the deda drops. switched to the steel b123s and have not experienced numbness one single time. they feel solid and dependable too.

I hit a pothole on Deda alu, and it felt like my wrist broke in three places....
For bars, steel is the real (cliche') deal.

To me, a former street racer, NJS is equivelent to parts tested at Nurburing. Super durable, race tested and reliable parts. Bling is just a plus, but then most Japanese/German parts have an undeniable beauty/cool factor, huh?
