I'l start: Chicago - Downtown, Reggie's (back of Alcock's bar on Van Buren) Wicker Park, Santullo's ($2 slice between 4-6pm) Biggest slice, Bacci (everywhere)

Montpelier is a small town. Population 8000, but we've got 5 pizza resteraunts (unless I missed one) and 3 of them are even good.

Positive Pie is the best in town, and It'll stand up against any of yer big city pizzas.

If ya don't beleive me drop me an IM when yer in Central Vermont, and I'll treat ya to a slice.

midtown/westport - gotta go to papa keno's on westport road. huge slices, tons of vegetarian options, toppings are absolutely piled on. after the bars close in this area, go to joe's, in the back of kelly's westport. pizza's not as good, but you're drunk and it's cheap so who cares.

crossroads dist - grinder's. great slices. great sandwiches. owner of the place used to be in gwar. what else do you need?

downtown - i don't really know and i don't really care. there isn't a reason to go there unless you're going to a convention anyways.

I'm all about Bacci's - there's one by my school, $3 for a slice and a pop with a student ID. Nonna's on 96th and Cicero gives them a run for their money, used to be $2.50 for a quarter of a pizza and a small pop, now its $3 or $3.25, not that you would ever be down that way though.

manhattan, upper west side: T&R Pizza on 79th and amsterdam; Sal & Carmines on 104th (I think) and b'way. I haven't lived there in awhile, but I'm sure these places are still there. Sal and Carmines is probably the best pizza in manhattan, IMHO.

A few years ago two ghetto pizza places located right next to where my band used to practice got themselves into a very heated "Halifax's BIGGEST slice" war. It became ridiculous. The two places -conveniently located side-by-side - were Rassy's and The Pizza Factory. Neither pretended to offer anything remotely resembling quality pizza; all they promised was volume. In the end, The Pizza Factory won the war by offering a "slice" of pizza (for $3.49, no less) that was, in essence, an XL pizza with the crust cut off on two sides to make it look vaguely slice-like. I poop you not - you could get slices that were about 2' long. The crust couldn't support the weight of the pizza, so when you got a slice for take out they would basically fold the pizza over onto itself a few times until it was a little more managable and then wrap the whole mess up in aluminum foil. Heinous. The Pizza Factory went out of business, but Rassy's is still there, kicking out the huge slice jams.

For those of you who may've been to Atlantic Canada and are familiar with the concept of the "donair," you may be interested to kow that they offered a "donair slice" in addition to the standard issue pepperoni and vegetarian options. Again, heinous.

As I said, my band used to practice next door (and I actually lived around the corner at one point as well), so I will cop to having bought a slice or two in my day. Never a good idea.

As far as actual, quality pizza goes, Halifax is blessed with a lot of really great options. Salvatore's and Tomasino's both offer really fancy-pants, delicious, thin-crust gourmet styles. The sun-dried tomato, artichoke heart pizza from Salvatore's is probably my favorite pizza in the city. Pricey, though. For cheap delivery styles, I am a fan of Saluzzo's. Before I moved in with my girlfriend, my roommates and I probably ordered from there twice a week. They recognized our voices and new our "regular." Pineapple, feta, hot peppers.

Downtown Halifax also offers its denizens and vistors a little nexus of culinary debauchery known as "Pizza Corner." At the intersection of Blower's and Market Streets, right next to a perfectly sit-able stone and mortar wall that surrounds both the public library and a church, there are pizza places on three corners (King of Donair, Sicillian, and The European Food Shop), with an additional contender less than a block away (Venus Pizza). It's quite a sight on a weenend night, with dozens and dozens of bendy-elbowed partiers shoving down slice after slice, while seagulls circle overhead, waiting for the scraps. Venus is probably the least likely to give you food poisoning, and actually make a pretty decent falafel.

As for Champaign... Its hard to say.
A lot of people go in for the Papa Dells- too expensive for my taste.
I like to get the pizza at Jupiter's or Esquire- good stuff.
Or one of my personal favorites, the frozen "Butches" pizza at the Brass Rail bar washed down with a few Cans of Hamms.

Scranton, PA region actually has quite a few, despite the city itself only having about 74,000 people or so. Good pizza cannot be bought by the slice or the pie, however, and must be bought by the "tray," which is rectangular in form. A few contenders are:

Revello's (Old Forge original)
Colarusso's (there are now several dotting the landscape...)

along with some other less-notable, but equally delicious places. That style is pretty unique to this area alone, and is apparently an acquired taste.

Montreal's not a pizza town, and has the worst pizza I've had anywhere. The standard issue here isn't as good as frozen pies, and that's saying something. In most cases, you're better off getting something else, or not eating at all. In my experience, this goes double for Quebec City.

Pizza here is either so cheap that you shouldn't consider eating it (Donini, most slice joints, with the exception of the Euro Deli on Saint Laurent - their slices and calzone are pretty decent), or ridiculously expensive for a totally nothing special wonderbread dough and heinz pizza sauce pie - baseline for a large (16 or 18 inch - Mtl standards are weird, so a "large" may be as small as a 12" pie) is about $20. Worst slice in the city (and there's many in the running) is that downstairs place on St-Marc (or Mathieu?) that used to have fifty cent slices.

Forget any place that has fancy "european" pizza, because that's not pizza. It's might be good, but eating a 10" pie with kalamata olives, goat cheese and sundried tomato pesto with a knife and fork is just an unrolled stromboli to me.

The only reasonable pie, and it's an odd one, is Pendelli's on Van Horne. They have a few other locations, but I can't vouch for them, and they're probably independently owned and operated. Kids will fight over the dough balls baked into the middle to keep the box from sticking, and the pepperoni is actual pepperoni, and totally weird, as they slice it lengthwise, so you get 8 inch lines of pepperoni all over your pie.

Recommended is the special with anchovies.

Notable about Montreal pizza is that no place has normal dried pepperoni - only the unspicy bologna-like stuff that is close to those logs of all-beef bologna you see in grocery stores. Pendelli's is the exception.

But I'm from Windsor ON, where there's a pizza section in the yellow pages, which made me believe that this is a thing everywhere. Faves in Windsor are Riviera (Ottawa near Devonshire) and Sarducci's (get the kitchen sink with anchovies). Armando's is good too, but only if you're near the original store on Walker - you get the knock offs if you're in the east end or south Windsor, so don't bother.

Dunno too many places in Philly, but it's a family tradion for me (my grandpop Dr. Pettinelli ran a family practice at 9th and Reed for nearly 50 years) to get a half tray of tomato pie from Ionelli's Brick Oven (on Passyunk or 8th? it's right by Gino's and Pat's anyway) for about ten bucks. Excellent sauce. Eat it cold.
