Suzue no more

i mentioned this a bit in CEYA's keirin MG thread, but maybe this deserves its own thread.
Suzue, Japanese hub manufacturer folded last December. So there are no more pro-max produced. If you need them, get them while you can.

hyperRevue 01-08-06 12:05 AM

Wasn't this a thread like 3-4 months ago?
Is it true this time?

teadoggg 01-08-06 12:13 AM

yeah, i guess the guy who runs the place is retiring.

I've been told that they're going to do one more run, producing everything in gold color.

I must have missed that thread then. but it's true, i heard from a NJS frame builder that he got notice from their distributor. So dura-ace is the only NJS hub still in production.

I find it mind-boggling that any company making track parts could throw in the towel in these heady days.

i'd like some gold ones for my gold deep v's. seems crazy to just retire and not pass the business or name onto someone else?

teadoggg 01-08-06 12:26 AM

i'm not sure - i haven't heard that the owner *wasn't* selling the tooling to someone, so maybe they'll come back?

Donno, suzue bought tooling from sanshin when they folded, and made pro-max. The market isn't really big, and doesn't really have a great future, as Keirin is planning to allow use of disks soon.

chicagoamdream 01-08-06 12:41 AM

I guess I'll buy a pair of the gold ones. Call it the kid's college fund.

Superbe forever.

Ceya 01-08-06 01:51 AM

Yep all true. I mention it before in an old thread.

S/F,
CEYA!

I was thinking the same thing... **** that stuff is going to go for a lot some day.

humancongereel 01-08-06 03:07 AM

and all this before i can afford to buy a pair. now i'll never be able to....

spud 01-08-06 09:22 PM

humancongereel, sell some plasma or go to the s-bank

MLPROJECT 01-08-06 09:26 PM

if they make them in gold, i'm all over it. the only way they could get more disco is if you put them on a chain and let them hang in a bunch of sweaty chest hair

There's a messenger in London who has an NJS sheriff star. He was talking about rocking it around his neck for a while. Dunno if he ever did.

Kinda funny how everyone loves the dead (suntour, Zeus, California fishers, colorado yetis, Santa cruz Bontragers, mexican windsor, etc.) I just hope that if the name is sold, the tooling and quality stay with it. Just look at the **** cranks that are now sold as superbe by SR suntour.

wangster 01-08-06 10:48 PM

Ceya, are they really gonna make em in gold? I was gonna wait to build up another pair with promax, but I guess I'll get them now before it's too late. My 36 pair is butter and I need some 28s.

teadoggg 01-09-06 07:39 AM

They're making them gold, and in very limited quantities. Like, 200 of each.

Happy New Year!! from Tokyo Japan

Because the president of SUZUE had committed suicide, it seems to have closed the
factory according to the rumor that I had heard.

As a result, hubs of NJS parts of Japnese Keirin have become only Shimano D/A.
