I'm jumping ship. Gears and brakes here I come.

Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Just kidding. Well...50% kidding.

I am buying this though:

1999 LeMonde Chambrey. Time Stilleto carbon fork. Full 9 speed Ultegra Group. Rolf vector Comp wheels. LOOK PM-256 pedals.

Dude bought it 5 years ago but it doesn't fit him very well. Minimal miles and it hung in his living room for the past 5 years or so. $2400 in 1999. $800 tomorrow for me.

I still plan on using my track bike as my main ride though. I don't think the 18 spoke front wheel and 20 spoke rear would handle Milwaukee Ave very well.

Hot to death.

You are allowed to ride a geared bike. I understand that cross-training makes you a better rider.

Yeah I'm taking it for a ride tomorrow evening and if everything looks good I'm gonna go for it. It's a 53cm. I am 5'9" with short legs, so it works. An industry friend also told me a long time ago for LeMondes are good for people with short legs.

Sharp.

I seem to recall getting some (minor) crap from you when I was trying to figure out the best way to get a front brake on a track bike..."Oh, just ride brakeless," he said...

But after the Elston experience yesterday, I've got half a mind to slap the derailleur back on my conversion. I don't know if I'm going to be up to doing that 50-mile map fixed.

I love my roadbike. I am not ashamed. 800 dollars is a good price if the condition is really that good.

That is a SICK bike and hope the deals goes down perfectly.
I just get finniky when people lay their bikes drivetrain side down.
I remember some dude transported a bike drivetrain side down in his trunk to meet up with me so I could buy his bike.
When he opened the trunk, the derailers were bent and I ended up not buying the bike.

Just to volley the crap(yeah, yeah, I think it's a nice bike, too): that is one SERIOUSLY roadie-looking bike. It simply demands spandex and Oakleys. No two ways about it.

Maybe we can get people who've filed the braze-ons off of their conversions to mail them to you, so you can max out at 20 waterbottle cages or something.

Give me a full-Campy 531 Raleigh Pro.

I think it's time to put buying track stuff on hold and scoop up classic geared bikes.

No one bought this gorgeous Masi for $399. If the seller had put a Suzue rear wheel on the back of that, he coulda gotten $900 for it.

A pretty De Rosa went for under $400 bucks.

Cinelli road frames are going for under $500. Let the madness begin.
