Freewheel on fixed hub?

So I ordered what I thought was the fixed/free Surly hub and have come to realize it is actually fixed/fixed. This would be fine except I wanted to start with a freewheel until I get my knee completely rehabed and then go fixed. Can i just thread a freewheel on there even though the hub only bites about halfway into the freewheel cog?

Yes you can. Go forth and ride.

a reverse suicide hub...so would that make it a life-affirming hub? a lifesaver hub?
