Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

I worked my way from like 150 - 200 - steel wool on my last paint job.

I don't know if that is good, or bad...but it's what I did.

If you want to be all anal about it (like me): 180 - 320 - 600 - 1500

Cut the paper into 1.25" strips (well, 7 1.25" strips and one .25" strip, I guess...) to make your life easier.

Didn't want to start a new thread about it, so I dredged this one up to show off the beater bike. Just took it out for the first time yesterday all over the city. I think it came out pretty nice. Decent component spec but nothing too blingtastic. The bars are getting wrapped with cinelli cork colored tape as soon as I commit to a stem length.

And of course, the now obligatory faceless/bag/action shot

Big thanks to Frank's bike shop on Grand, Ebay, Gotham Bike Shop in TriBeCa, and especially
TIMES-UP! on 49 Houston.

If I wind up keeping my beater conversion, I'm going to give it a spritz of the darkest shade of BRG they show here:

wikipedia entry

The traditional paint they used had an interesting characteristic in that it looked green under some light and near-black in others. Now *that'd* be sexy
