Stem Angle Match problem

I have a 120mm stem at 0 degree with riser bars. The rise is 45 mm.
What angle stem would I need to get to achieve the same bar height with flat bars?
The stem can also be a bit longer up to 130mm.

Thanks!

First, this is basic trigonometry. You need the pytagorean theorum and the sine/cosine/tangent formulas. Wikipedia will help you.

Second, and not to snark, why not just use flat bars?

Because the current height is very comfy. So to keep comfy height I will need a different stem.

Thanks for the tip.

oh, I get it. i thought you were trying to go from flats to a riser/deep drop combo. that would be stupid.

not to pick nits, but the "stack height" of your new stem is going to affect rise as well.

What is stack height?

You talking about spacer or the stem steertube clamp part?

Regardless, if i ever go flat I will use the same model stem (with different angle) and no spacers anyway. I just put on some flat bars and flipped the current stem. To simulate a potential new setup. Made over the bar skids suck. So risers are staying until I get over the poser tricks.

I desired one for about an hour today for my bike.

Then I managed to try one out (friends bar) and decided that my risers are staying.

"Quill stems rock"

I'm starting to feel that way too.. I dig the look of forged quill stems more than the big blobby funky threadless ones, for sure, especially with 1-1/8" steerers..

Obviously the connection is not as solid with quills (nor as stiff, probably), but there are certainly some functional and aesthetic pluses.

salsa makes/made some very nice threadless stems. They are tigged steel and don't have that ugly fatness that other stems have. I also really like the look of the Thomson Elite stems although those are very beefy.

I love the look of quill stems, but apparently threadless is really the way to go from a mechanical standpoint.

Salsa does indeed. Super stiff, sleek to match a thinner tube look.
