Merckx frame

1 Attachment(s)
I am very new to single/fixed gear bikes. In talking with my local bike shop about setting up one, he reccomended an Eddie Merckx frame. Attached is a picture of one on EBAY. Can anyone tell me if this has horizontal drop outs? From what I have read here, that is a priority in setting up a single/fixed gear bike.

those are horizontal... i think... i can just BARELY make it out

That's strange that he would have recommended a Merckx specifically for a conversion.

The frame you posted has vertical dropouts, but they're pretty long, so you should be okay.

But why convert that beaut? So pretty! If it was smaller, I'd snatch it up.

Are those cranks Mavic?

Indeed it does. If this frame is your size and it goes for a good price, it'd suit your needs nicely.

Those are Mavic's - in fact, there's an eBay auction with them now in a ss format (available in 165, 170 and 175): http://cgi.ebay.com/Mavic-Pista-Trac...QQcmdZViewItem

I wouldn't ruin a sweet old road frame by converting it to fixed gear. That frame is more deserving of gears, IMO.

Be cautious with vintage Merckx stuff; some of the molteni (orange) coloured bikes are low end liscenced stuff made by Falcon in England, and some of them are really nice. For the record, that one is later and better.

i agree with boston fixed... baby that merckx with full record.

i think those mavic cranks are soo booty..
