I'm thinking about heading to Berlin for the first weekend in Feb. Anybody got any good info or people to see? Anyone care to join me and tear around the city on bikes?

berlin is dope for riding! some bikes. few fixed gears/track bikes. the messengers, while all having fixed gears, ride road/mountain bikes...

the guys at the keirin cafe are worth stopping by to see. they can also point you to the bagjack warehouse which is in the area...

https://www.keirinberlin.de/

https://www.bagjack.com/site.html

both places are run/owned by super cool people...

the neurotitan gallery is a store/artspace that shouldn't be missed... they have some pretty good shows hanging most of the time. they hosted a faile/bast show in 2003. it's near the office/dispatch of a local messenger company and some other cool stuff.

https://neurotitan.de/

it's gonna be SUPER cold/rainy there in february...

i lived in berlin for a year. you'll have a blast. although winter is pretty harsh. just very cold. doesnt dump too much snow...hit up prenzlauerberg and kreuzberg. mitte as well. best areas in berlin. i have to admit i never hung in west berlin the whole time i was there. best streets:

oranienstrasse in kreuzberg, kastanienalle in prenzlauerberg, alteschonhauseralle in mitte.

bike rides in the tiergarten are nice. all over berlin is good, people are friendly and aware of cyclists in the road, seriously curteous drivers compared to where i'm from, i was blown away. just ride around and drink cans of becks from all the little imbis's (food stands) all around berlin. ask for currywurst mit pommes. or wurst im brot in alexanderplatz from the walking sausage stands...maybe your vegetarian? if you are, its sort of tough in berlin. vegan? forget it. if you want to check out art galleries they are all over berlin. walk into most galleries, especially in mittte and pick up the little "index" magazine and it will tell you everything that's on. kunstlerhaus bethanien on marieannenplatz in kreuzberg is a big arts complex with tons of shows. there is an english speaking weekly there. can't remember what it's called, it'll tell you lots of stuff thats on.

you are going to berlin...you are stoked!

zwei becks grossen, bitte!!

i'll be in berlin between 16th of march and 31st of march this year. how long you hanging around for?

actually it's:

zwei grosse becks bitte....

i was on the butt other end of germany for a year. winters are seriously dreary but hopefully you'll have enough to do and drink enough of the outstanding beer that it wont matter much.

+1 for the brats in alexanderplatz or near Berliner Dom. I was in Berlin spring break of last year. it was cold as ****, but a brat and a german beer in front of Berliner Dom warmed us right up. For riding, definitely do the Tiergarten. And all the touristy ****. If you can get someone to show you the REAL bits that are left of the wall, it's pretty cool. It now has murals painted on it, including this. We crashed at a friend's place (who no longer lives there), so I'm sorry I can't help you out with that. But have a great time. The city frigging rules.

I went for Love Parade, and had an outdated Lonely Planet guide, so I don't know how much of a help I can be. Really depends on your interests. I spend my nights at clubs, and days at museums and sight seeing. The Filmmuseum is really good, but I'm a bit obsessed with cinema.

You could rent a bike... for example here:
https://www.fahrradstation.de/

Fahrradverleih = bike rental
mieten = to rent

Those are probably not the best and most definitely not single speed bikes, but they are bikes.

If you need help with translation, write me a PM.
Have fun in Berlin.

and that's only a few of the stuff that dustin and bragen(sp) have in their shop. The shop even has a shelfs and an entire display case made of wood from a velodrome that was torn down in berlin a couple years ago. My suggestion if you want a good bike is to go to Keirin or Cicliberlinetta, hang out the whole day, make friends with someone and ask them nicely if someone will lend you a bike. Hell, dustin has so many bikes it's pretty likely he would have something for you. Dustin always has restoring work to do so you could probably polish up a set of wheels for that. Bragen is an awesome guy to show you arround town if he's not busy at work or with his beautiful new daughter. Dustin is awesome too and would probably be more than happy to show you arround or go out for a few drinks with you. Most couriers will stop at either one of these two shops at sometime durring the day so it should be pretty easy to meet people.

Tell everyone that Henry from Madrid/Boston says hi.

PM me if you would like more info.

Ah so much more love. I think I'm aight with the translation. Well not really but I'm American right? We're world renowned for our complete ignorance of everything! That an I got a phrasebook I been lookin at. "Wo sind meine hosen?" I'll def head over to cicli and keirin first thing to see what's up and give em a shout out for you Henry.
