Oh no, another rubber device that would be better suited as a rubber band to fling at someone...

If I want a bracelet it better have diamonds on the perimeter...! :D

i know i am a newbie on here, but i felt the need to register and put my 2 cents worth in. My mom died of cancer about 6 months ago. now, i am sure that you are thinking i am going to bash slopvehicle for posting this, but really, i think this is one of the best posts on this thread. i know my mom would never want to be remember as losing her battle with cancer, and i know she would not want to be remembered as some cultural fad. and that, my fellow bikers, is why i wear a livewrong bracelet. to celebrate my mom and her constant push to keep me who i was, to do my own thing, and not to be ashamed of who i am. i constantly see the livestrong bracelet in chicago, and it is almost a slap in the face. it seems most people are buying them because it is socially "in" to wear one, and the fact that it helps cancer research comes second. there are plenty of people that wear the livestrong bracelet because they truely believe in the cause, and i salute them, and there are plenty of posers whom wear the livewrong bracelet because they think it is cool and want to be outcasts.
so, before you pass judgement, make sure you have all the facts, everything out there has it's true believers, but it also has it's tag alongs.

Pretty swell blog, I guess. I bought one of the "Che Merckx" t-shirts from him a few months ago. It's a hot shirt - but then again, anything with Merckx's face on it is gonna be pretty hot.

+1

and he sells one of the better track bike teeshirts out there.

i have no particular disdain for lance, per se. but, i must say that i could give a **** about him and the tour de france. professional road cycling does not interest me whatsoever. so, when someone yells "GO LANCE," or "TOUR DE FRANCE, DUDE" at me when i'm riding my bike, i tend to develop a bit of antagonism. it used to happen every ****ing day. sometimes, up to twice in the same mile. being "lanced," as it were, has annoyed me to no ****ing end. it's sort of funny in a "god, what sort of ******bag yells that sort of ****" way, but jesus ****ing christ. not that it's actually the fault of anyone other than the ******bags shouting, but it certainly doesn't help it when 90% of the time that i hear someone mention lance, it's when i'm being heckled.

there. that's my lance rant. when it comes down to it, i don't really care about him one way or another, but i hate it when people assume that i'm lance's biggest fan when they learn that i ride my bike all of the time.

Back (way back) when I was turning wrenches for K-Mart Automotive, my buddies and I were wearing fashionable oil filter gaskets around our wrists before there was even an Armstrong.

Do you think the yellow band plastic can cause cancer?

IchbinJay 01-16-06 04:24 PM

No one likes Lance because he's from Texas. Plain and simple. Only people who like Texas like Lance.

Those Livewrong bracelets started as a way to make money for a family that lost someone. The Drunkcyclist helped promote it cause he knew the family and wished to help them raise money for their bills. Then the money from the cause was moved to that cycling group there in AZ.

I think they're great if not just because when I see one I know I am talking to someone who I have something in common. We might visit the same site, discuss on the same forums, and probably both enjoy riding bikes.

Take it easy.

Seriously, what the **** is that? someone mentioned a cool Merckx jersey there but all I could find were 10 billion links to cheesy porn. The whole thing was ****ing impossible to read and seemed to have more to do with porn ads than biking.

gally99 01-17-06 01:59 AM

i've had a couple livewrong bracelets for a year or so now...
i got it when i regularly trying to talk about bikes with people wearing livestrong ones and they had no idea what i was talking about... the majority of them didn't even know what the livestrong thing was about, just that everyone else was wearing one...

Yeah, the site ain't exactly work-safe, but I like the guy's attitude. I guess getting drunk goes hand-in-hand with stroke material, so he's trying to cover all the bases.

This is the same reason most runners hate Forrest Gump (though it's easier because he's fictional).

i guess this isn't as bad as "skipameal.com strong"

mattface 01-17-06 08:24 AM

What's with this recent trend of posting the same thing twice only slightly reworded?

mattface 01-17-06 08:25 AM

How come people keep posting twice with only a slight rewording?

what a coincidence,
my place of employment also did an inane blue bracelet, ours was to raise money for the Katrina disaster, a worthy cause without a doubt but we were fairly behind the times, everyone who was going to give to hurricane releif already did. there are hundreds of pretty blue wristbands sitting in accounting offices of hotel/restaurants accross the country, as another post said, yea! more land fill.
