wind wind wind rain rain rain

so this morning, I was out riding at 6:30am and it was the windiest thing I've ever experienced. the headwinds would grind you to a stop, the side winds were so violent I'm amazed i stayed on my bike, and the tailwinds...well, let's just say it could kinda make you believe in god.

the elements sure make this a fun sport.
Last summer I rode into Chicago from home (25 miles south east) took about 1 1/2 hours, then later turned around to go back only to find I was heading into a strong wind just about doubled my time.

ad to that the 3" thick ice we've got here, and you'd be inside like I am trying to get the fire going

I have the space heater ragigng right now, does that count?

CF4L 01-18-06 10:44 AM

there were somethinglike 40+ mph gusts in DC for Frostbite. it sucked hard. i feel your pain.

head winds are so demoralizing. you are trying sooo hard, and effectivly going nowhere. its one of the few times i was an engine on my bike.

my bike looks like a Kosher salt caked fish after coming over the williamsburg bridge

*new*guy 01-18-06 10:55 AM

It was pretty crappy this morning but the ride home tonight is going to be much worse. Always nice to have something to look forward to;)

of course it does. Both can dry your feet and keep them warm and both are banned by my office building because the manager is afraid that it will burn the place down...

max-a-mill 01-18-06 11:31 AM

i got blown across a lane of traffic comin down the ben franklin parkway...

i swear there musta been two gusts that were over 60mph. i felt the first one coming so i braced for it. the second one took me by surprise and hurled me out into traffic.

fun stuff! and i heard the wind is gonna switch directions this afternoon effectively givin me headwind both ways. as someone said at least there is something to look foward too!

AfterThisNap 01-18-06 12:06 PM

Maybe it's just my luck, but it seems like EVERY street I go down has a headwind. Going down 5th I feel like I'm going 3mph, and I guess it changes direction when I head back up because it feels like I'm standing still trying to ride back up.
This morning's rain sucked pretty hard too.

msneeri2@hotmai 01-18-06 03:32 PM

dude, i had to swerve HARD to avoid getting the **** knocked out of me by a giant flying plastic bin on spring garden at 5:30am this morning. 10 minutes later i got blown out in front of a pickup truck and he had to slam on his brakes. it was crazy, just hoping not to get blown out at the wrong time...

there were somethinglike 40+ mph gusts in DC for Frostbite
at 4 in the morning i was almost back home (in virginia)
damnit was i tired.
i hit every stop on those manifests and still raced goldsprints!

so anyways...

as i made the last turn onto my road, and headed home,
the wind shifted and was to my back steady for the first time all evening.

for about a mile and a half i ******** flew.

at one point the wind actually picked me up and threw me about a foot to my left.
and at about 35+ mph, that ish was scary as i don't know what

the best feeling though, is not feeling any wind on your face,
and hearing the absolute silence

damn

Yeah.. holy *****... this m,orning was terrible! After the morning I had I wimped out and took the bus home. Those bike racks REALLY come in handy sometimes. And the rest of the bus came in handy as a windbreak for me across the spring garden bridge by the art museum.

But even tho the weather was horrendous, I still couldn't wait to get out of work and ride around. I think It's time for a new job.

not to mention the occasional trenchal downpours that came every once and a while. This morning in the delaware valley was no fun for bike riding.

nickmaimone 01-19-06 12:21 AM

yeah im across the bridge in NJ, and we had it bad too. It was chaos, but I loved it, it felt to amazing, I was out around 630-7ish, and trash was EVERYWHERE. When I got home later tonite I found this out... My neighbors across the street must have replaced their doors,(bedroom doors, etc) so they had all the oldones out at the trash. The wind must have picked a door up, and flew it across the street right into my brothers car. Broke his window, and dented and wrecked the whole side of his car and also dented his roof. How bad does that suck! The weather is insane man, and animals seem to be doing weird things lately too.

Word. It's like you're stationary and the world is rolling underneath you. Errr, something like that.

kurremkarm 01-19-06 02:58 AM

Earlier this week there was a massive headwind. Kansas, wind, go figure.

xthugmurderx 01-19-06 07:00 AM

so the consensus is that yesterday was great in philly? haha. i know how y'all feel. exhilirating, to say the least.

BLACKMARKET 01-19-06 07:48 AM

i got my 1o inch space heater to its max now in my room

chip thunder 01-19-06 07:53 AM

The morning weather yesterday was totally worth it for that hour of perfection...nice sunny skies, happy wet and oh-so-skiddy streets. For those of us who could get out into them around 1ish, that is.

brunop 01-19-06 08:35 AM

all clear in boston today. all the rain washed away the salt mostly. 30, breezy and clear when i left my house and 'sposed to be around 45 with diminishing wind and even better tomorrow. DAP!
