Help with first fixie build...
 

Actually its more of a parts swap, but nonetheless it will be my first time doing this. Right now I have an IRO Mark V complete. I really enjoy the ride but I havent been able to convince myself on the aesthetics of the bike. I really like the converted 80's road bike look better then this newer style type bike. So I went onto Ebay and for $20 bough this frame...

I figure hey...its $20, if it doesnt work no biggie. What I want to do is take my Mark V wheelset, and put it onto this frame. I want to keep the cranks and pedals but the seatpost, saddle, chainring, bars, etc.. will all be new parts. My question is should something like this be difficult? Would I be able use my IRO bottom bracket and put it on this frame if its the same size? Basically Im just looking for a heads up on things I should look out for before trying this swap. Thanks in advance to anyone who responds! :)

A. Why do you want to keep those cranks?
B. Are they cottered?

Ah my fault..i meant I want to keep the IRO cranks..

I don't know what the spacing is on the rear IRO wheel, nor what it is on your road bike frame, but that's a possible problem area that could affect chainline.

Unless you know the threading of the roadie BB, it's impossible to say whether the IRO BB will work. If the rear spacing is different, you may well need a new BB anyway.

If the old frame took 27'' wheels, you might have a brake reach issue.

None of these problems should be deal-breakers, in my opinion. I would just start the swap and see what works and what doesn't and go from there.

yeah, i agree. you probably won't run into "deal breakers", as spider-man says, but you might have a couple hurdles in the process. and those are the ones i'd foresee.
