In your opinion

Which do you think is a nicer frame?
Currently riding a 1978 Raleigh made from Reynolds 531 with pretty Campy drop-outs. It's a road conversion.

Thinking about getting a Nessuno/EAI/Bareknuckle.

Can't afford to equip both, so the question stands. Which is the nicer frame in your opinion?

Do you want road or track geometry?

I think I'm just itching for a new bike. The old one is a fantastic ride, but...

hyperRevue 01-20-06 10:38 AM

I'm not really sure so I'll bow out.
But, my possibly uneducated thinking is that Raleigh is better from a tubing standpoint.
But the Bareknuckle is a nice, solid frame - three of my friends have them.
Personally, I'd go Bareknuckle because I've sorta become anti-Conversion - for me, not for others.

The biggest difference from a riding point of view would probably be the geometry. If you are worried about having a proper track bike then a conversion - no matter how nice - may not be the ticket. If you just want a new bike then nothing will do other than a new bike.

I reckon that fixing up a nice old frame like that would be cool - you get a unique bike that you know you like and take a small stand against buying pointless new things that you don't need (of which I am always guilty)..

You could upgrade parts on the current frame and then, if you decide you want a new frame, transfer the parts across to that.

Amazing how little feedback a thread like this can generate. What's the matter people? Don't know anything about bikes? Has all the knowledge left? I fear this may be the case. Nobody can chime in on their thoughts of frames and metallurgy? Old quality lugged 531 -vs- new tigged Deddacai com 12.5? Oh wait I forgot everybody here is too busy mudslinging to have a conversation about bicycles.
By the way I got a PBR pin from the PBR lady last night. Can't touch that...

Pistaboy - Is that you?

Um...excuse me?

mrRed 01-20-06 03:15 PM

can you afford to build up the bareknuckle over the next few months, or is that out of the question? I mean, logic would stand that when you come to a fork in the road, take it.

Seriously though - what do you want us to say? Surely there are enough archived posts on the Nessuno/Bareknuckle that you can get a sense of what people think of the ride. As for how it compares with your current bike and what you'd be gaining or losing by making the switch, that's really up to you to figure out.

Best solution: Get the Barenuckle/Nessuno. Keep the Raleigh frame. Switch back and forth as needed. Save up money until you can build up both. Yay!
