Thats all about preference of the rider and can't simply be changed through a video.

If it was geared more as an urban rider beginner video you can send your message to the viewers without judging thier confidence on their bike.

Some ideas of things to add in such vid- to learn what to expect from other drivers, how to look for cars pulling out of parking spaces, how to encounter opening doors safetly, encountering potholes safetly, etc. These are thing an unexperienced urban rider might not know and ully understand.

Anyways ill help out, time willing, of coarse.
EXACTLY!!! thanks for understanding.

i have no interest in the rules of the road. my interest is in explaining to riders various possibilities to consider for avoiding urban hazards (what to look for, how to dodge, how to fall), going over skipping, skidding, bunnyhopping, how to use a front brake safely at speed, ways to get pedestrians' attention, quick tire patching, proper lock-up technique, making a saddle retaining cable out of an old chain and innertube, making a frame protector, filling bolt-heads with solder/de-soldering, etc.--basic stuff that we all learn and things that get asked about a gazillion times here.

we could donate the finished DVD to bike co-ops, TA, messenger associations, times-up, etc. as something that they could manufacture from a single master that we would give them and that they could then sell to benefit their groups.
or you could sell them on ebay. . . look what happened to the FREE puma fixed gear 101 booklet?!

actually, something that I could help with, and might not be a bad idea, is I have access to a car whenever I need it, all I have to do is ride to Jersey to get it. might be useful to show the best way out of certain dangerous situations, left/right hooks, etc, with a semi thought out scene.

yeah, that's why i only partially disagree. and i'm not necessarily a film snob, but i've had lots of friends who were aspiring filmmakers, actors, etc...and i've learned a lot from them.

Yeah that would be sweet. I'd love to help in anyway, but Oregon's far enough away I don't think I could do much.

But would it be stuff like "How to spot a car thats about to pull out" Or more like "This is the way to do a super long no handed cross legged skid while ordering a pizza" sort of thing. In other words in this a guide to keep you riding safely, or a guide to keep you riding like a pimp?

you should include a few tips on how to ride with other people. i've ridden with a few people before who didn't really know how to keep a line, proper spacing, etc and sometimes it's a bit dangerous. if you need another person to film riding, let me know.

i don't want to speak for the OP, but i'd imagine a little from column A and a little from column B. no reason you can't look good doing this stuff...

i was under the impression that it was more the former...how to dodge giant deathmobiles. which is where i have most of my fun on a fixie.

Hey guys! I have an idea for the video. Why not use an old persons voice as a speakover? Find an old relative and persuade them to participate. The speakover voice should be used as a kind of old film instructor, like one of those films you watched in school: "Hello kids! Today we're going to discover the beautiful world of safety!"

Just an idea! I love video projects! Wish I lived in NYC.

I like the idea. I'm helping a friend shoot photos for a book about urban cycling (design class project). Finding dangerous situations isn't very hard with all the bad drivers out there. Here's me 5 minutes into the first ride.

this is fantastic. I have been taking all my non-messenger semi-sporty friends on City Riding "training rides" to get them comfortable in traffic, oriented on how to plot routes, basic maintenence and where/who you go to for help since I started riding because it is learned. I know I'd be super into it from any vantage point: it's fun to demonstrate in a functional way. (Airplane diagrams are so passe) and exciting for a shy person who would see something like this as an approachable way to get started.

I suggest a "bike school" shot of lane etiquette shot to resemble a school of geese.

FORMATION!
