I've launched a new site that you guys may enjoy:

velospace.org

What is velo space? A place too look at bikes, upload bikes and get free photo hosting. The site is geared towards bike fanatics of all types. I encourage you to sign up, upload some bikes, tag them up, explore the features on the site and enjoy.

Things to keep an eye out for: new design, friends networking, etc. I developed the site with help from some BFFG people - a big shoutout to everyone who stepped up and gave feedback [esp. dolface and mcatano who spent some extra time with suggestions]. Check out my sig for an example of how to use the site (upload a bike, link it in your sig, etc).

Edit: If you are looking for some pointers on how to use the site, here are a few links to get you started.
  1. Thumbnails page - to get a quick look at the bikes on the site
  2. Random bike
  3. Discover bikes - to find bikes by tag [fixed / track / campagnolo / keirin / etc]
  4. Tagging guide - to read up on the tagging system and use it to the fullest
  5. Friends - I coded up the simplest form of social networking, add friends to your bike profile! Keep tabs on bikes that you dig and show your love for those special rides.

humancongereel 01-20-06 03:02 PM

sort of off topic, but i always read your screen name as "Greg G"...if that's right, are you the dude responsible for fixed gear 101? i mean, on 63xc...damn good resource there for anyone who's starting.

gregg 01-20-06 03:04 PM

haha, I am not involved with 63xc. I am "gregg" on here because "greg" was taken and people always ask if my name is spelled with two g's at the end. It is not. I am merely "greg."

Jamtastic 01-20-06 03:05 PM

i like it...

humancongereel 01-20-06 03:09 PM

okay, just checking. i was gonna thank you (that site helped me a lot), but i thought i'd wait and see.

velospace is pretty nice, too. i like drac vamp's pink bike.

jessefive 01-20-06 03:11 PM

Yesss! More ways to waste my time while at work.

onetwentyeight 01-20-06 03:13 PM

the xml thing was a little tricky to figure it out, but now that I have its gonna be nice to have fresh fixedgears delivered straight to my newsreader. Booya.

gregg 01-20-06 03:22 PM

128: I need to get that sorted out so I can deliver a cleaner RSS feed for everyone. Its in the pipeline.

onetwentyeight 01-20-06 03:27 PM

Cool. I'd appreciate a picture in the feed of every bike, too :D Or even better the whole listing.

gregg 01-20-06 03:28 PM

You write the PHP and you have a deal ;) PM me if you want a table dump

onetwentyeight 01-20-06 03:37 PM

im too stupid to code.

everyone just has a picture of their bike instead of them anyway on myspace

raygunner 01-21-06 06:09 PM

Nice site, I'm sure it's gonna be one of my addictions next to fixedgeargallery.

Our very own mcatano suggested a feature a while ago that I finally was able to finish (after much consternation and gnashing of teeth - this seriously took me about 1/2 as long as it did to set up the majority of the site):

FRIENDS! Now you can add Friends to your bike. Whats that mean? At the bottom of every bike you upload you have the option to add Friends and show your love for bikes you especially like.

This is the simplest form of social networking, more features to be coming as time permits. Check out my velospace bike profile for an example of this (scroll down to the bottom).

Woooot!

dolface 01-23-06 08:25 PM

congrats on getting it done!

rock!

mcatano 01-23-06 09:43 PM

Gregg,

You've created something almost as awesome as Catster. Hats off.

m.

gregg 01-23-06 10:08 PM

Its a work in progress, if the site is ever on equal footing with Caster I know I have succeeded.

I'm going to add a page to see who has befriended whom and whatnot. Not tonight, but soon. And the site should have a proper logo in the coming days!

marqueemoon 01-23-06 10:38 PM

This bike is nuts:

gregg 01-29-06 10:20 PM

I just added a few more features:

1. You can now see what bikes are the most popular in the Friends system (http://velospace.org/friends), who has added the most Friends (http://velospace.org/friends)
2. On each bike page you can see who has Friended your bike (for example http://velospace.org/node/140#friends)

onetwentyeight 01-29-06 10:27 PM

man if not having enough myspace friends didnt give me an inferiority complex already, now my bike's a loser too. siigh.
