New Hub!

today I made a trip to the LBS to try and find a new high flange hub to replace the one that failed on me last tuesday. Low and Behold in the very bottom of the parts bin and brand new NOS pair of HF gold anodized hubs, sunshine is the brand i do believe.... some hot stuff right there...will post pics tomorrow after i pick them up. Anyone have any info about Sunshine hubs?

See also "Sanshin"
I think it is a Japanese brand and they called them "Sunshine" when sold in the states for obvious similarities in the word.
Don't know too much about the brand or the quality outside of that.
I do have some old Sunshine hubs at home but never really looked into the quality aspect of them. They reside in the "Old crappy stuff pulled off old crappy bikes" bin.

high-end sanshin hubs are awesome, i have a et of njs ones, and they spin as smoothly as campy pista

Yep, I had a sweet set of NJS Sunshine low-flange hubs for a while on my old 3RENSHO conversion, and they rode very, very nicely... good hubs.

Are they track hubs? If so, what on earth were they doing in Fredericton of all places?

ImOnCrank 01-24-06 03:11 PM

Don't knock Fredricton man. I did well at the lumberjack meet at UNB there a few years ago and have liked it ever since.

Invicta: do you ever ride the ACC in Dieppe? I've been meaning to go for the past few summers, but I never seem to get it together to make the 3hr drive from HFX by myself.

I keep on hoping that NB will be some sort of hidden track bike goldmine, but thus far no dice. I missed out on their liquidation last summer - three or four Nishiki track frames for $65ea? God damn, son.

humancongereel 01-24-06 08:00 PM

i like nishikis. i've seen a few i'd rock as conversions.

mcatano 01-24-06 08:05 PM

These were actual track frames... for $65.

el twe 01-24-06 08:13 PM

Good god!

invicta 01-24-06 09:22 PM

Ive been to the ACC numerous occasions, training camps and such ( i race road ) but have never ridden on the track... i should give a shout down there and see if i can hunt down a frame or two....

mcatano 01-24-06 10:03 PM

I've tried calling around a few times - the ACC and the shop that sponsors it (Mike's Bikes?) - but I've always come up dry. My friend Steve rustled up a vintage Torpado track frame from someone there around the same time that those Nishiki frames went, but that's about it. Judging from the website, their fleet is made up of those Pepsi bikes. Which I (as any non-Quebecois Canadian would) find hilarious.
